Which Revell Millennium Falcon is better?
Posted by Rob Gronovius on Sunday, August 21, 2016 12:25 AM

I know Revell puts out four of them, the ex-Fine Molds kit, the small snap together one with sound and two larger snap together ones that are about the same size. One is a 52 piece kit with the original configuration and the newer 85 part kit from the Force Awakens.

Anyone know which of the last two is superior? This is for my 12 yr old. He breezed through the small snap one along with the battery powered First Order TIE fighter.

Now that First Order TIE fighter is awesome; light years ahead of the Darth Vader TIE fighter that was my first star wars model in 1978. Although that TIE kit with Darth "sitting on the toilet" will always have special memories to me.

Hey Rob,

I don't think there's much between the last two kits - they're both pre-painted and weathered and I think the extra parts count is because it has the 5 landing gears set-up as opposed to the 3 of the 'original'. Also the newer radar dish.

If it was my 12 year old, I'd go for for the 'Force Awakens' kit as it's the newer movie (and he's built the First Order Tie as well).

I've seen both of these Falcons built up....(well, snapped together) and they look good for what you get. With a little panel line wash and more weathering, they can look fantastic.

I'm sure he'll have heaps of fun, whichever one you get him. Make sure to submit some pics to the gallery here - always good to see the younger modellers getting involved in the hobby!

Hope that helps.

All the best,

Dermot

Thanks, we picked up the two smaller X-wings at the local Kmart that was going out of business for a whopping $10 a piece. He's going to do the black one and I will do the regular one. Our local Walmart has the 52 part Falcon for $30 and we can use the 40% coupon on the new Falcon at Hobby Lobby.
