Oh those models from Dust look so amazing. Like the OP said it's SciFi but it's still beleivable. I love Gundams but I also like something completely different to break up the tempo. Thanks for the suggestions.

Robot Jox, there are some memories. Like you said the Pacific Rim of the late 80s. :-). CGI looks really good but from a visual perspective but from a more believable perspective a machine that size is not going to be nimble. It's going to be as graceful as an elephant.

If you do a google search you will see that someone restored the robot piloted by Achilles and it looks pretty awesome. No Robot Jox kits though. :-(

As listed earlier the Hobby Search website is the easiest way to find other kits in mecha series. If you go to the Gundam section then scroll down to the bottom you will see a list of "alternatives" on the left bar. These are mostly anime focused but you do find some other lines there as well.

What you're really wanting to dig up is resin kits though. Robot modeling never really took off in the West the way it did in Japan. It's only just coming up now 15 years after Bandai tried to launch Gundam here. We're pretty much stuck with resin kits for larger pieces or 28mm wargaming models which I would consider to be a little different genre wise.

Do you have any examples of the sort of robots you're looking for? Since so much of it is anime and you're not interested in that style it's hard to know if you're wanting.

Besides Macross, there have been kits from the Crusher Joe series as well as teh V.O.T.O.M.S. show, and Dougram which contributed to the Battletech/Mechwarrior story line as well as the Macross line.  This turned into a long running game with metal figures as well as the computer games.

Revell reboxed a bunch of Japanese mecha models in the 1980s and called the Robotech Defenders. They all came from various cartoons and anime, but were combined into one line. (It'd be like combining Star Wars, Star Trek and Battlestar Galactica kits into one model line called Galaxy Wars).

Trigon looks a lot like some of those walker types. I've never heard of Robot Jox, looks interesting.

You guys are awesome! Lots of good leads here. Love that dust series.

Anyone ever see the Robot Jox movies from the 80's? I always loved the mechs in those ever since I was a little kid and now as an adult I only have more of an appreciation for them. Would love to find some kits closer to that style.

I used to play a video game named Armored Core, and they have 1/72 scale kits of the Mechs from the game. I have not purchased one yet, but, one of these days I will.

Here is one on eBay. Link

They are quite a few choices, however, they can be pricy, hence the reason I haven't pull the trigger on one yet.

Good luck in your search.

@Rob,

Thanks for the link, I'm going to check out these Dust kits! Looks very interesting!

A couple of years ago I was looking for something similar to the Jaegers from 'Pacific Rim' and found HobbySearch's website. They have lots of photos so you can look though them for something that suits your fancy.

Bsyamato recommended this website as well for reviews of mostly Gundam kits but some other stuff. I don't read Korean but most of them have an English menu and again I was able to look at the photos.

I'm with you on the Gundams. I have a couple of kits from the Robotech Defenders series. They were made in the 80s but can still be found at shows (and probably ebay). They made around 2 dozen different kits, some of which are very Gundam-like, but others are much cooler looking.

Robot/Mech Model kits other than Gundam?

Not sure if this should be in sci-fi or figure models..

Im looking for different types of robot and mech model kits that are not Gundam. Im just not a big fan of those. However Maschinen Krieger are amazing, there are some amazing builds to be found on pinterest as well.. not sure if these were kits or scratch builds. Obviously I know how to find maschinen krieger kits. Im looking for other types of mech/robot kits I may try searching for ma. K kits are pretty pricey as well as they all share the same style would be cool to find kits from different artists with different styles. I like the models that seem to exhibit more realism. Where as the Gundam kits are very cartoony, way over the top and have insanely unrealistic features like wings.. I really like the stuff that looks like something that still abides by the laws of real physics and science.
