So, i've ben working on this model for a bout 4 years, off and on of course. Very frustrating build, but I do like the subject matter. It looks to be based off an IMAI Genesis Climber Alpha-1. I'm a fan of the Robotech series, so I love the mecha designs. It's definetly not remotely similar to any of the GOBOT toys.
What I found frustrating, is that it is a complicated model build, but the styrene seemed really odd. It seemed delicate and the fit just wasn't what I was accustomed to in past IMAI transformable kits.
Maybe it's just old? Maybe Monogram usd a lower grade of raw materials for the US market, to keep at a low price point? Fair amount of casting flash and the parts just didn't seem to line up well.
Also, I first tried to replicate the Scott Bernard blue and white Alpha paint scheme. That did not go well and I runined the pant job for multiple reasons (mainly builder issues!), tore down and stripped the paint.
I was pretty beaten down and had no clue what to do. So I just went with gray and just started weathering. I always wanted to try weathering one of these mecha builds.
I'm pretty happy with whats coming out of the ashes. It seems like the model has some weight and feels like it's from the real world. It does look like a box art illustration.
There are some errors and seams that could be much better. But for my mid-tier skills, I feel pretty content at the moment. I learned some stuff, tried a few new things and it will be a nice additon to the shelf. I do have to do the decals and clean some tacky glue off from the clear parts. But, it's pretty close and I'm feeling accomplished and that this saga is at an end.
Please give me feed back and your thoughts on what I could do to improve. What you do and don't like. Can't get better without some criticism.
