One of the advantages for building for others is working on a kit I wouldn't necessarily purchase. Here is the Zvezda 1/2700 Star Wars Star Destroyer.
The model features internal cabin lighting and flickering rear engines. I elected to light only the main engines.
After first using the fiber optic/ led combo, I didn't like the look...so I proceeded to remove all the fiber optic strands. I utilized SMD strips and on the inside of the model carefully smoothed on clear epoxy behind the drilled out viewports. The model was then sprayed with a clear flat to diffuse the internal lighting to a realistic scale. I dislike that horrid blue effect on white LEDS so I used warm White to give the correct effect.
I made my own circuit board for the rear flicker effects on the blue/white LEDS.
The model runs off 12 volts.
The first photo is at my local Hobbyshop with my 1/72 Bandai Millennium Falcon.
