OK, y'all, the X-Wing is finished. You're gonna like it (I hope). My depiction of the American Volunteer Group a long time ago in a galaxy far far away. The stock color scheme for these imaginary space craft is OK for movies but for sitting on a shelf they need to be much more colorful. That's why I chose a Flying Tigers look. The pseudo R.A.F. camouflage with grey underside seemed like a good idea. Certainly something I've never seen before. The number seven is the number Robert Lee Scott had on his P-40K when he commanded the 23 FG. The yellow nose is because in the movie "God Is My Co-pilot" Scott, as played by Dennis Morgan, repainted the spinner on his P-40 before every mission it seemed.

The X-Wing is built straight out of the box. Primed overall with Alclad grey microfiller and primer. The metal panels on the nose are Alclad Aluminum. The engines, the tail and the panel behind the cockpit are Alclad Dark Aluminum. The guns are Alclad Duraluminum. All of the other colors are Model Master enamel: Medium Green, Dark Tan, Light Ghost Grey, and Insignia Yellow for the nose. The pilot's flight suit is Insignia Red. The marking are from Print Scale, their P-40B decals. I still have enough Flying Tiger decals to do an Academy P-40B I have waiting in the wings. BTW: Print Scale decals are very delicate. They need to be handled with great care or they will just roll up into a little ball. I had to re-float them a bunch of times as I was decal-ing this X-Wing. Oh yeah, the decals are sealed with Alclad Semi-Matte varnish. They look good.

Yeah, I don't know, Gamera. Could look just aweful. The whole plan is just in my head and everything looks good in there...lol. We'll see. This is where I got my idea. Mine won't be RAF though:

Other than the actual construction of the kit, I'm treating the X-Wing just like any other WWII model airplane I have on the shelf.

Status Report: This is moving along so fast. So this is where the X-Wing is at right now. Most general painting is done. The cockpit still needs to be detailed. Some pieces have been clear coated prior to assembly. The second topside camouflage color will go on after some smaller bits are attached. The pilot has a red flight suit. Detailing on him still needs to be done.

Another cool project.

Shot some primer and did some painting. Everything is primered with Alclad Black Primer and Microfiller except the pilot, he was primered with Grey Primer and Microfiller. The cockpit got a shot of green chromate. I'll detail the cockpit tomorrow. The engine tail pipes(?) are painted with Alclad Dark Aluminum. The front engine opening is painted with Alclad Aluminum. The fuselage upper and lower halves will get some color tomorrow. The pilot's flight suit is Insignia Red. The pilot will get detailed tomorrow too. That's it for the X-Wing today. Jeepers, it's moving along fast.

These Bandai kits sure go together fast. I did a little assembly yesterday. Today I'm going to shoot some primer. I'm going to black-base some parts as well, like the cockpit.
