The Invaders season 1 vaporizer gun.
Posted by mach71 on Monday, December 9, 2019 4:06 PM

I have been looking for one of these for years and this one came up on ebay.

This is the larger season 1 gun, I've never seen a kit of the small season 2 version.

I have seen the original on display in the Science Fiction Museum in seattle, this kit looks accurate in size and shape.

I have no information on the origins of the kit.

It has 3 resin parts and a targeting screen decal.

After starting the clean up the pin holes show up. These are just a part of garage resin kits. I'm trying to limit the surface work to limit the pin holes. Surface prep usually ends up taking the most time on these kits.

The body of the gun is large, solid, and HEAVY!

From the Science Fiction Museum:

The paint scheme is monochromatic, kind of boring. The color looks to be a medium/dark grey.

BTW in the 2nd and 3rd photo you can see the 2nd season pistol.

Oh that's cool! Never seen the show but wasn't it B&W? Seems like they'd have painted the prop a little more colourful to make it 'pop' on the B&W screen.

And it's funny, I think pretty much every prop is out there somewhere as a garage kit. It's just a matter of finding them.

The show was ran for 2 seasons '67-'68, It was a Quinn Martin Production and in color.

The show is worth a watch, it's kind of an odd duck, almost has a film noir quality to it.

The art direction was very flat overall, but still well done. The ship is a saucer, the aliens "uniform" is green coveralls. Some people theorize that "The Invaders" takes place in the same timeline as UFO and is a prequil to the British show. Overall the stories are intelegent and thoughtful. I think it holds up well.

It's on METV saturday nights and I think youtube has the episodes. Sadly niether Netflix or Amazon Prime have it.

Thanks guys!

I started surface prep today, its going as good as could be expected.

Once I finish it, where will I put it? this is the largest pistol kit I have seen.

For some reason I was thinking the series was from the '50s... Tongue Tied

Thanks for the correction!

Gamera if you get the chance to catch it on METV its worth it.

I used bakingsoda and thin CA on most of the pin holes. Some would not fill well so I reverted to thin putty. Still working it but the really bad spots, the bottom of the handle and the back of the body are done.

I brushed on some Tamiya surface primer and it looks like its done.

Still working the viewer and the front of the handle.

That looks good Mach71, nice work dealing with the pin holes.

I'm not sure I get ME TV, I'll give YouTube a look though. You've got me interested.

I think they are on YouTube.

All the parts are together and the 1st coat of final color is on.

I'm trying to get this done by the end of the year.

In the photo above you can see 4 small dimples on the emitter. I don't know how that go this far!

I filled them.

There was also a big seam around the handle, Some Perfect Putty fixed that.

I put, what I hope will be the last 2 coats of paint on.

It automotive GM dark metallic grey. It looks good to me. Maybe a shade too dark.

I have some pearl clearcoat, semi matt clear, and matt. I might hit it with one of those after I see it dry.

I think you will like it, It's a quality show, though very 1968.

Disaster struck! I used some tape while putting on the last coat of paint and a large section of the paint came off. It won't be done this year.

I tried sanding the area where the paint came off but the paint just balled up on the sandpaper.

I let it cure for a week and tried sanding again today. The paint was chipping off.

I used some perfect putty to try fix it. It's drying now.

I'm going to call this done.

It's not perfect, but it's done!

I posed the Vaporizer gun with 3 death disks I made years ago.

They are on display waiting for me to build the Saucer.

Thanks Gamera.

I'm happy to have it in my collection.

I just need to find time to build the Saucer now.

If anyone is interested I just bought the season 2 vaporizer from Century Castings. A UK company. I have his Space 1999 stungun and comlock. Both very nice so I'm happy he is offering the small vaporizer. I'll post photo's when it comes.

I now have the complete "The Invaders" set. The 2 guns, 3 death disks, and the Atlantis saucer. I guess I could try and make a regeneration tube, but where would I put it?

When you watch the show sometimes they show a small video targeting screen on the weapon, usually with their next victim pictured.

They also used a larger weapon mounted on a tripod.  This was sometimes used to defend one of their ships or could be carried in teh back of a box truck.

Just a large scratch build project to think about.

The show is on every Saturday night down here, right after Buck Rogers on METV.
