My Mk I and Mk II BSG Vipers
Posted by danburnsart on Monday, December 30, 2019 3:07 PM

Okay, so these have been WIPs for a LONG time...several years now.  I think I started the Mk II first but can't honestly recall.  It was about the same time.  Like most I love both of the Battlestar Galactica series' and as a modeler I love the ships for their dirty and worn appearance.  Weathering is always one of the more enjoyable aspects of modeling because this is where we really get to try to make it look "real".  Although just how these craft become so weathered and carbon-scored in the vacuum of space is beyond me....

Neither of these are completed yet but they are both getting close, especially the Mk II.  I also have an aftermarket resin canopy for the Mk I.  Weathering and detail painting still need done, and I have a complete, untouched ITB Mk II waiting in the wings too.

I also am throwing in a pic of my re-imagined Cylon Raider.  Not sure about where it's at right now.  I found a remarkable model done several years ago by a great builder whose name I now can't recall.  His metal finish was second to none and it was still the best Raider I've seen.  I also have a TOS Raider I'm working on.

Thanks for looking!

PS-if anybody happens to have a spare Mk II canopy for the Moebius kit I need one.  Thanks for any help!

In reference to the mssing canopy, Moebius customer service has been first-rate in my experience. Shoot them an email with the kit and part numbers and they'll let you know if the part is in stock and what it will take to get it shipped off for you.

Looks good to me!

And they do land on planets so I guess they could get sorta dirty and scuffed up that way. Although the ones in the series were based on battlestars instead of ground bases so you have a point.

Yes I've considered that also Gamera. I'm not complaining; they offer great weathering play so I'm interested! Same goes for Star Wars subjects though I'm actually bigger in Trek than anything but BSG and Star Wars let me mix my love of sci fi and of real world armor.
