The Slave 1 has large patches of chipped paint. I normally brush paint small chips but don't think that'll look good for big patches.
What is a good way to do it? The salt technique looks promising.

Years back, FSM magazine ran a sci-fi special that featured the AMT Slave 1. It's been a long time since I last read the piece, but if memory serves, he used the salt technique in conjunction with a few other techniques for the model. I think it was Aaron Skinner's piece and I want to say that it was one of the first articles he wrote for the magazine.
I like the hairspray technique but there's no reason you can't combine it with the salt technique.
Or even throw in some sponge chipping afterward!
No reason to use one technique or the other, you can combine them as you see fit.
