First kit(s) completed. Star Wars X-Wing and Tie Fighters
Posted by PhilliePhan79 on Monday, March 16, 2020 8:15 PM

This is my first (well three) completed build(s) since returning to the hobby.  You'll find me mostly in the aircraft forum, but I thought I'd ease in with these neat little bandai kits from Hobby Lobby.  Really enjoyed working with these.  Nice detail.  Some challenging masking.  Happy with the results!

Didn't care for the generic stands that came with the kits.  Especially since the Tie Fighter stand just holds it by a wing.  So I made my own.

Had a lot of fun with these.  Will definitely be picking up some more Star Wars kits.

Sweet work, Phillie. I really like how you weathered the x wing. Looks like right out of the movie. I expect Luke to pop the canopy at any second.

They look fantastic! I like how you have them displayed, looks right out of the movie.

I tried the x-wing a couple months ago, the decals were horrible, would not conform or adhere. And no, I did not mistakenly use the stickers! How were the decals in your kit?

I masked and painted the canopy as well as the gold nacelle.  The rest are stickers.  Pressed really hard and was surprised how well they conformed.  After a clear coat I was satisfied with them and weathered over top.

Tie fighters are all paint.

I lobe these Bandai kits, I also agree that while ya have to tease the stickers down by burnishing them the effect IMHO is convincing. Always room for improvement however just for fun and relaxation.....near perfect.

Very nice builds and AWESOME display.

we're modelers it's what we do

I meant the tiny R2 head on the x-wing.  I'll have to hit that with silver and maybe some well placed blue specks.  Have to check a reference photo.

Thanks! I'll try the stickers, hope they turn out half as good as yours.
