Flame Toys Starscream

Cruising through my local Hobby Lobby, I cam across this one!  I dont know much about Gundam building and weathering, and I know that technically Transformers arent in the Gunpla universe, but this kit is very similar to the Bandai's Gundam kits. So naturally, extensive research was at hand...

I actually really enjoyed myself!  I have seen several other kits in this line available: next on the 'to purchase' list is Bumblebee, Oprimus and then Megatron (all Gen. 1).

The kit is molded in light and dark grey, blue and red, with the orange tinted canopy pieces.  I didnt want to just leave it in kit plastic colorsm so after cleaning up and sanding the edges of the various pieces, I assembled it into subassemblies, and primed with Mr. Surfacer 1000 (for the light grey pieces) and Mr. Surfacer 1500-Black for the non grey pieces.

The red and blue pieces were base coated in Vallejo Metal Air Duraluminum and ten color coated with Createx Candy2.0 Blood Red and a mix of Carribean and Royal (I think) blue.

After top coating that with Gloss Clear, I pin washed with a custome mix of oils, using black, burnt umber and a little grey.  Sponge chipping followed and some "scratching" using the same colors as the chipping colors.  before flat coating, I mixed a drop of Iraqui sand into Vallejo Matte Varnish and sprayed from the bottom up to give him his dirty appearance.  Krylon Flat Clear locked it all in.

Here is Starscream!

I've done a couple of Gundams and their great fun. Detailing a Gundam, to me, is one of those builds that you can make it up as you go along. Painting and weathering are pretty much left to the imagination. I need to do another Gundam this summer.

  .

Assembled OOB. Painted/detailed my way.

OK. In the stash: Way too much to build in one lifetime...

Highly Recommend trying one or two!  they are actually really fun!

This is a really inexpensive one I did last summer just to see what was up

with this gundam thing...

I am a huge TF fan and a big fan of Starscream as well. I've been curious about the Flame Toys kits for some time now. That Optimus Prime kit looks amazing to me and I really want one.

Starscream will have to be a must as well. I'll have to go check out HL soonish.

Fan-freaking-tastic finish on your kit! He looks amazing!
