I have a few of these old MPC A-Wings. One of them, I want to make into a larger Y-Wing fighter using the A-Wing as the front cockpit and then trying to figure out what to do for the larger engine wings.

Y'all have caused me to have another look at the kit!

After working on the kit for a little while I determined it is unbuildable.

I might be wrong...

Ohhhhhhhhh, I like that Thunderbirds or Blue Angels would be cool too!

After the end of the Rebellion you'd think the New Republic would have some demostration squadrons- that's an interesting idea for a homebrew scheme.

Thanks, Aggieman, for your comment. So, do you have pictures of the Sabre to share?

That is awesome.

I totally get it on the burn-out you described. I typically will build something not typical or something quick. As for a Star Wars type build, I did an F-86 Sabre a few years ago in a camouflage scheme that the bird actually wore, but I made up custom decals for the pilot's name, which was none other than Lt. Porkins.

You could use a pilot's name like Merimac, Roblee, or something like that.

Is the "A" wing about 1/72nd scale?  I'll have to find one somewhere.

The kit is 1/48-ish. Sorta. Here are the two A-Wings posed together. The Blue Nose in the Bandai 1/72 scale A-Wing. The MPC A-Wing may be difficult to find except at shows maybe.

Gamera
I have thought about slapping some Confederate flags on an X-Wing to play off the whole 'Rebel' concept...

...Which of course would need some terribly inappropriate and politically-incorrect nose art...I'm thinking something like "Rebel 'Rouser," leaving it to your imagination to conceptualize. Big Smile

(I did it on the old Mono P-38 Lightning years ago....)

Now that's one I never did think of.  I like it.  I may have to do something with Thai markings.

Great idea!  Love the checkboard scheme.  I built AMT's Snow Speeder several years ago for a co-worker's husband who was a big Star Wars fan.  I did something similar with red bands and red, white, & blue shields on the air brakes.  It may not have made the die hard Star Wars fans happy but he sure loved it!

May the force be with you fotofrank!

Republic of Vietnam Space Force A-Wing Fighter...

I'm getting kinda bored with all of the propeller airplanes I've been building. They just haven't been getting me excited about building. So I picked up this old kit from a friend a while back thinking to myself that I could make something out of this. As I looked at the box art I thought to myself, the Resistance sure have some boring looking space craft, so I went for flashy. This is the result:

 .

Republic of Vietnam Space Force A-Wing Fighter! I was going to go with Royal Thai but I didn't have the correct markings. I used the Vietnam Air Force Grumman Bearcats as my jumping off point. Overall is AK Xtreme Metallic Dark Aluminum. I used Mr. Color Gloss Black acrylic as a primer for the NMF. The black is Mr. Color Gloss Black acrylic. The checkerboard (which I recently learned how to do) Is Tamiya Flat White and Insignia Red acrylic. First time out painting a checkerboard. Masking is very tedious, but I like the look. The whole model is sealed with Alclad Clear Semi Matte. The decals are from a left over 1/72 A-1 Skyraider AOA decal sheet. As always, comments and critique are welcome. Enjoy.
