This build is magnificent.  I've followed from start to finish.  Love your display; much more than the cracken.  I now have to wait until I fininsh mine to say, "Release the Cracken".  I've learned so much from watching your build.  I still consider myself a beginner.  Thanks for sharing your build.

This is true. When I first started reviewing the shots on my camera I came across that one and thought--"holy moly-- what is this? I like it!"

Regarding the aquarium. Tanker Builder "floated" that idea a ways back. I think I'd rather just put it on a shelve as is.

Otherwise, there is that feeding fish and water changes stuff. It's a whole ta do.  Just kidding ya.

Minimalist is an aesthetic that's very hard to achieve.

Only reason I'd second Tanker's notion of an aquariium would be to make dusting easier.  Mind, 5 bits of plexiglass would suffice to the end.

And, photos are ehemeral--the best ones just happen.  A person can plan, and prepare, and havign the fundamentals sorted improves the odds, but serendipity is just part of the magic.

Yeah dust is a problem, especially in my house. I like to keep windows open in the summer and man, dust gets bad. And that is why it will probably sit in a storage container.

It may be time to get a display case. I am starting to get a collection of builds that may warrant getting one.

I hear you about the serindipity. It is a must to have the mechanicals down right but it is the magic that you can't plan for.

I found that Michaels and Lobby hobbies hqve many display cases for baskeballs, football helmets that are inexpensive and work well. My Nautilus fits easly in a football helmet display case that set me back about $20 with the Muchaels coupon.

Greetings, Rob.  I had done some research and if I had not mounted it to the columns, I could have fit the boat in an enclosure as such.  Once I mounted it to the columns, not so much. The overall height of the piece is about 10" but the length is 16". The football helmet enclosure appears to have a max width of 14.5" and the height is about 11". So close! Next time I go to HL I will measure theirs. Maybe it would fit diagonally? 

I have two other diorama builds with large footprints and those sit in tubs too. That is too bad because I really like them. I am not sure those would fit a floor case even. I'd have to research more.

For me it's the journy of the build but it would be nice to display them too.

WOW!  This looks amazing!  The submarine has that "Steam Punk" look to it and the base/setting just makes it POP and brings it to the WOW Factor.  You've got to take this to the 2023 Regionals in Eagle River and the 2024 Nationals in Madison!

I was hoping to attend the 2024 Nationals in Madison. I have not experienced one yet and since it was close, I thought it a good opportunity to go. But I was going as a spectator. Interesting thought to enter this build. I dont know anything about doing so, so I would have to research it. We will see what 2024 looks like when we get there.

Very nice!  I have this one in my stash for 'some day'.  I have many aftermarket bits, but was shying away from the lighting kit, but after seeing this one, I may just have to get that, too!

Hi! Bakster!!

        Hey, here's a though along the lines of an Acquarium but cheaper and just might work. An upside down, large Terrarium!.They can be built simply or bought large enough to do the job and so many are already made in Plexi with clear bottoms and sides. Think about it. Your builds are too nice to hide away, man!

         What I did for a customer some years back to make it simple. I got a 48" by 48" piece of 1/8" plexi for the main piece and A 36"x36" piece to cut for the ends. I then  put the sheet over a large Restaurant Sauce pot.Ya know the big stainless steel ones. With a Towel(Damp) between it and the pot.The towel was actually a piece of scrap linen. I then used a torch on Medium to start, As the Acrylic softened, it did not, get soft enough to pick the cloth pattern,BUT, soft  enough that with the heat and gravity, formed a perfect arch!

        I then let it cool naturally, no cold water or stuff like that ( that will make the plexi Brittle) Cut and polished the end pieces, glued them on and Viola, A showcase. Total cost, Half of what you pay for ready made (Not counting the labor). Oh yes, every tme you do this you must polish the exposed edges. That gives it much better clarity and appearance. The folks at Home Depot or Lowes know me, and what I am coming in for if I have my Tape measure on my belt!

         NOTE:

 Do NOT do this with Aluminium Pots. The Pot, if Scratched, will transfer scratches to your Plexi. Also, You can use a more controllable Heat Gun. I didn't have one then!

Hey TB, thanks for the terrarium idea. That would work for sure but I'd still need to set it on something and this does not solve displaying my other models. I am sure I can find some space to set it on though.

I think I need to think big picture. It would be nice to have a vertical display case for the corner of my living room. Yeah it will cost some money but long term, it would look nice, and allow me to display my projects. The link below is just one example. There are many versions and several at half the price. This size though might allow me to grow into it. At the pace I build, my biggest problem may be trying to fill it. Maybe when I reach 90 it would be almost filled. I have the perfect spot for something like this.
