How the heck did I miss this!?!?!?!
Okay I'm months late on this but fantastic job!!! WOW!
"I dream in fire but work in clay." -Arthur Machen
PhoenixG Gamera Wow, it does remind me of the dropship from 'Aliens'. Maybe you could fit a small APC in the robot recess like the Alien dropship carried??? Or three massive bombs!

"I say we take off and nuke the site from orbit. It's the only way to be sure."
That's great!
I agree with Gamera, the stripes are a nice touch and add weight to the impression you'd find it on an airfield somewhere.
You going to build a fleet of vessels for your very own Martian air force?

Thanks everybody for the nice comments. Other than a few small touch ups that I want to do tomorrow (once the current paint dries) I think I'm about done for now.
Here's how it turned out.
The stripes look great and they work well with the camo!
Hi,
I know this needs a little clean up where the paint bled under my masking tape, but I am almost done now. I wanted to do somethingother than Roundels as nationality markers, so I just went with marker bands. I didn't think about it at first but the colors that I ended up using kind of remind me of WWI Royal Armor Corp markings.

I like the enhanced Martian camo scheme. It's coming along nicely!
Very cool looking. Could be the Marines future VTOL/STOL Osprey II
Thanks,
John
PFJN2: Whoa that looks fantastic!!! Love it!
Thanks Phoenix and Duster. Going with the Martian-kind of theme I went ahead and tried making the dark patches more of a reddish brown, and changed the black stripes toa dark brown.
It's coming along nicely!
The cammo pattern evokes imagery of humanity's colonization of Mars and the establishment of it's own Military. Can see it doing nap of the earth flying along the red Martian landscape.

Building the perfect model---just not quite yet
I still need todo alot of touchups to the paint, but this is how the model looks right now.
Cool project and it's coming along, Pat. Looking forward to the next installment.
It's similar to the fighting machine transported used in the old Dougram TV series that they had in Japan in hte 80s. That one used rotors.
I took a short break for the holidays and to visit family, but I am back at work on the model now.
During the break I gave some thought to kodify the model to carry a vehicle, but neither the 1/72 scale M1A2 or the LAV models that I have looked like they'd fit easily without some modifications. So I decided to leave this kit as is, but I also bought another copy that I may modify later. For that other kit I may try a 1/100 scale vehicle or maybe even try 3D printing a vehicle.
Anyway, I will try and post some more images later this weekend.
Hey PFJN2, was curious to see how this coming along. Any news?
Things are moving along (slowly).
Starting in on camouflage
Also working on sealing up the bottom
That might not be a bad idea. I may have to see what kind of 1/72 vehicles they have at my local hobby store
Thanks for the responses. Here is an image of the bottom showing the recess for the robot. I am thinking of maybe plating it over, but haven't fully decided how yet.
PS. Sorry for the shadows. I didn't realize how darl they were til after I posted the image.
The lines of the model give it a striking look. Like where you're going with the color scheme!
That's a cool one I haven't seen before.
But I could see it looking pretty natural in, say, USMC colors....

George Lewis:
Interesting kit and build, Pat. I think I'll be looking for this kit. Could be an interesting "what-if."
OK. In the stash: Way too much to build in one lifetime...
I saw this kit at a local hobby shoptoday.
It seems to be for some sort of futuristic Robot Transport VTOL from some Japanese Anime that I am not familiar with. In general giant robots anime isn't something I follow much, but the aircraft looked interesting and not overaly expensive, so I bought it. Although the craft has a recess in its underside where the top of a giant robot could be carried, I think that I may try and fill it in and make the model into more of a generic all-round VTOL type transport/gunship.
The kit actually appears to be a Snap-Fit kit in a couple colors, plus a smokey clear for the canopy, but I ended up gluing it together to make sure nothing gets knocked off. It went together really well, and there is a bit of clever engineering in how some of the parts are put together to give them extra rigidity (especially the vertical tails ). Here is where I am so far.
I went for an Earthy colored base coat in part because it was what I had readily available, but also because I think it might help give the finished build a bit more of an other worldly look than just going with the base drab green recommended in the instructions. I'm still not very ggod at spray painting but I may try and do a little masking and spraying with a lighter color to give it a more camoflage final look.
