Looks really good! Those Bandai 1/144 kits are great little fun builds. What color did you use for the blue/gray?

Thanks Stikpusher! This is the fourth one I've completed.  They're just so easy to assemble that I find them a great way to unwind after doing a more complex build.

The blue/grey is one I mixed using Vallejo paints.  According to my notes the mix was the following.

8 parts Pale Blue Grey Vallejo Air
1 part Flat Blue Vallejo Model Color
1 part Dark Grey Blue Vallejo Air

It was applied over a black primer coat.

Very nice! I had my hand on that kit yesterday at the store, humming and hawing whether or not to get it. You couldn't have posted this two days earlier!? Wink

Danke SplatterMan!

Thanks Gamera!

It is funny about lighting. I always think about Luke getting the green lightsaber in 'Jedi' partly since if he built a second blue one it would have blended into the sky.

I was not aware of that bit of trivia!  Instead it blended in with the green of the forest! ;)

Since you have now learned that, what are you gonna build for us now?

Still working on that.  My stash has grown large enough that I'm suffering from choice paralysis.Stick out tongue

Are you planning on building two of Vader's wingmen?

Absolutely!  The kit came with one of his wingmen and I have a second kit to complete a pair.  Leaving a spare Tie Adv. to practice realistic battle damage on.  Stick out tongue

But if you do that, you'll have to build Red & Gold squadrons. You know, so that you can run down the hallway recreating the final battle - when no one is looking of course. Do you have one of those golf putting things to act as the thermal vent? Stick out tongue

I can neither confirm nor deny those activities take place... Big Smile

Building these are part of my grand plan to build my very own death star trench run.

Someone has taken the 1/144 Vader's TIE and built a TIE Bomber from it, which was really amazing. The only thing is that only the window and wing panels are used. Come on Bandai, one more push to give us a TIE Bomber (in 1/72 and 1/44 please).

That sounds intersting.  I'll have to dig that up.  Visions of the asteroid field...

+1 to Bandai making one!

TB,

I had read that the blue screen used in filming, in conjunction with the 1970's era film processing, caused the powder blue TIEs to look like washed out grey.  Film processing improved over the original trilogy's run (1977 to 1983), and so if you compare stills from Star Wars and Return of the Jedi, the TIEs from the latter definitely look bluer.

See!

Now you know why before computers they used Models in Court cases concerning Fatal or near fatal Car crashes that resulted in big Awards from juries. It was known that the average person Cannot tell you, five minutes after the crash, whether the car responsible, Or truck, for that matter was Orange, Wine Red or Just plain Red!

Since you have now learned that, what are you gonna build for us now?

Quick, clean, easy build.  A little too easy.

The Empire isn't going to have grungy machines making the most involving part of this build masking the solar panels.  Felt like it would be a pretentious to pull out the white background to photograph it so here it is in the raw.

Interesting note, all tie fighters are blue.  It's a trick of the lighting that makes them look grey.  I painted Darth Vader's Tie this specific hue, not so I coud say "mine's movie prop accurate!", but to see is I could produce that same trick of lighting.

This is the exact same model in a slightly different temperature light.

Holy cow it worked and it isn't just the camera!  The model looks different to my eye.

My understanding is this color shift phenomena is a pretty common thing for movies to contend with.

Now I get to enjoy my very own magic color shifting Tie Fighter. Smile
