Good job.  I like your paint work, makes the model  show up well. The base is great.. "less is more" simple is better 

Nice work, Frank!  The backdrop of the fence really helps to make the clear rod invisible in a couple of those shots.

Here it is, the final product. I made the photographs this morning.

Well, it's certainly been a while. I've had to force myself to regroup recently. Just too stuff on my bench and I couldn't maintain my focus.

After varnishing the edges of the plaque, I finally laid down the paste that will make up the base for the Speeder. The paste needs to set up for couple of days then I can paint it to look like desert sand.

I agree, I first ran across these MPC Star Wars models in 1978 at a JC Penney clearance bin in New Hampshire. I got Vader's TIE, Luke's X-Wing, R2-D2 and C3PO. I didn't have enough money for the Darth Vader figure, and when I returned the next week, it was gone. The boxes were beat, but the kits complete.

I was hooked and have probably built every AMT kit except Vader.

fotofrank, I think that it looks great!  You don't see too many of these built up since the new Bandai Speeder bikes arrived on the scene.  Thanks for the tip about using colored map pins for the control levers.  What paint did you use on the trooper's goggle lense?  I like the idea of using one of those blurred base scenes and I have seen others on you tube where they used aquarium plastic plants to depict more of a jungle scene.  I've got to get into my stash and find my kit of this and build it soon.  Well done and cheers!

I've been lurking in the background and your build has drawn me out of hiding.

The Speeder Bike turned out great.  The original kit had a circular clear sheet of acryclic to suspend it.  I like your base much better.

I've been carrying one of these around for 25 years now.  It was gifted to me right before several big life changes.  Finishing college, getting married, having kids. 

It never had the opportunity to be a shelf queen.  It went directly to box troll.

It's kind of like a groundhog.   Except if it sees modeling tools it jumps back into the box for another 5-10 years.  Maybe seeing another of it's kind will encourage it to come out and play.

Great job!  I have this one in my stash...you've inspired me to blow the dust off and have some fun!

Thanks, everyone. This was a fun build and different for me, a guy who usually builds airplanes. I'm still kinda surprised how big the finished build is.

One of my favorite MPC kits from the 80s. Easily the best of the Return of the Jedi kits they made.

That is nicely done. There was a modeler in the past on this forum who did great bases, mkostly of runway landing spots, where he used a print of the ground including the runway number and "smeared" it for a blurred speed effect. If I can find a photo of that, I'll post it.

Desert sounds good to me. Or at least a heck of a lot easier than trying to build all the plants and undergrowth for an Endor's forest moon diorama.
