Transformers DMK-02 Bumblebee Kit painted up
Posted by JLKahn on Monday, September 19, 2022 9:51 AM

Here are some shots of my DMK-02 Bumblebee. This kit was kind of a pain because it had preassembled and prepainted parts. They gave no decals, sticker or water slide to help replace any of the markings if one chooses to fully paint the kit. Super Angry

Originally I did manage to save the license plate detail by simply masking over it, but I was doing some touchups later on, forgot the detail was there and painted over it. Whoooooops!

First up. No armor, not painted.

No armor, but painted. I painted the endoframe with Alclad 2, dark aluminum, then did a dark black wash to pull out the detail.

Unpainted endo with unpainted armor.

Fully painted endo with armor on top. Confession time. The yellow armor is not fully painted. Because I didn't want to ruin the prepainted black striping, so I clear coated it with alclad 2 matte finish. Then added a black wash to each armor part and let it dry. After letting it dry I wiped off the excess and that's how I got that dingy look to the armor. After that I added some silver highlights to the edges with a Tamaya weathering kit to simulate edge wear.

That looks awesome.  Big difference after you 'treatments'.  So much less toy-like.  Well done.

Thanks,

John

Great creative solution to removing the plastic look of the armor without losing the original detailing.

The look of the completed figure is works really well.  Pretty much how you'd expect Bumblee to look after a dust up with the Decepticons.  :)
