John, that dropship model looks great, you've got the weathering down pretty good, i just wish Randy would have had a construction article on that pleasure craft.......he sure has a way with plastic, you keep up the good work.

Yeah, I was MAJORLY inspired by Randy Cooper when that issue came out. I went junk hunting for months (still am) to find parts for scratchbuilt engines for my spaceship creations.

My own scratchbuilt/kitbash masterpiece ;) appeared in the Great Scale Modeller 1998. Here if you're interested:

I contacted Randy last year (ydnar@rampageusa.com) to let him know of my secret worship of his skills, but I'm not sure that email is still valid.

Here's to a great great Modeller.

John

Time Machines ... now there's a great subject. If you go to the colemanzone site (see Philip's post above) have a look for the model by Granite City Mechanician of the original Time Machine from the 1960 George Pal film. I have been working with Granite City Mechanician here in Scotland producing those wonderful models. If you are looking for a Faberge quality model of the Machine, built in Swiss pearwood, brass, white metal and in-built electrics so that the lights work and the dish revolves when you push the tiny crystal-topped lever on the control console, then that's the model for you. I can answer questions, if anyone has any....

I met Randy at the last Pasadena con thrown by George Creed. Extremely nice guy to talk to. Got to see most of his models up close(including Gunstar, lighted) and talk shop for a while.

He made the patterns for the Monsters in Motion Gunstar kit. Very nice work and done in two weeks. He recently did a Matrix style craft similar to the Nebechunezzar(sp?).

In the Feb 1987 issue of FSM # 5 vol # 1 The spaceships of Randy Cooper was an inspiring series of photographs by Larry Munne, what i'm wondering is what ever happend to Mr Cooper ? i would love to see more of this mans fantastic non - military space ships, a survey and research vessel, a air and ground rescue ship, a pleasure craft the Phoenix, and an ore mining ship with a small loading vehicle that fits inside. The article has four of the more than thirty ships that he built, he was showing the four at a IPMS show in Tampa, does anyone know Randy Cooper and if so could he ask Mr Cooper if he would post some of his space ship models on this website ? i came across this issue in a hobby shop last week.
