new to sci-fi section
Posted by Anonymous on Monday, May 24, 2004 1:02 AM
as the title reads, i am new to this section, i mostly hang around armour, dios and helos. There has always been somthing about space craft (futureistic one, modern and past ones suck, comon NASA IN 10 YEARS YOU PUT SOMEONE ON THE MOON, THEN 40 YEARS LATER NOTHING?!!!) any way kinda lost it there. I am amazed about the fact that it seems most space craft models are scratchbuilt (or so it seems) i was wondering what starwars models can be bought. i know about the trade federation tank, but surely there are more....

Welcome to the sci-fi section. Most of the main vehicles in Star Wars have been released at one time or another in kit form. An ebay search should turn up quite a few kits.

thanks guys, checked ebay, not really anything that interested me in canada (shipping in expensive othere wise, other than a start destryer with fiber optics Shock [:O] little out of my price range. so anyway i decided to scratch build, got the plans, i will show them later, started some building, going to take alot of work i think. i got a question though: when sctatch building a spacew craft, how do you do detail like sheet metal joins, and stuff like that?

So i uploaded my plan from my brain, to paper, to my computer, then to the internet.

it is well defended with laser turrets and interceptors. It has 2 medium blaster cannons (pic says 1, misprint, too lazy to fixWink [;)]) for attacking large ships and stations, and a large blaster cannon for attacking plannets or assisting troops and tanks that were delivered by the drop ships. the top of the hull is mostly covered with solar pannels, and there is a glass portion for plant growth inside the ship. For propulsion there are 2 rocket engines attached to the rear of the hull, with another engine on the top rear of the hull, the top one can move up, down, left and right to stear the craft. Commanding this ship has been simplified by using 3 areas of command; defensive, small craft/docking, and the bridge which controls the engines, and the other commands.

i call it: The End Is Near

so what do you guys think?

having trouble witht the pic..... it was too small to read, i made it bigger, now it is impossibel to read it or see the lines, didn't save the original so i have to start again. possibly.

Looks pretty good so far Greg , do you know what materials you'll be using for this build ? For mine I'm using everything from styrene to styrafoam , white glue to epoxy ..............., etc . Anyway Welcome aboard sorry it's a late welcome .

i plan on using what ever i can find that will work. i finally get to use up my spar parts box... those dollar store subs came in handy for the engines. hardest part will be the main hull i think. i am thinking of making it a cut away so i can build an interior.

Regards, Dan

Greg,
Now give NASA a little slack here Wink [;)]. The spaceplane, the new shuttle prototype (which was recently squashed), the new probes, Boeing's new Delta 4 (especially the Heavylift variation). Yes I agree Banged Head [banghead] that the low orbit space station for all these years is a wee bit played out. I mean, you can now do a lot of science on board now. Still need to get another piece our two up there and don't forget there's maintenance needed also. Maintenance isn't glamorous, you don't need real cool "starships" just the BUS (orbiter). As a matter a fact, I'm waiting for the return of one of the station's gyros for analysis.
So Greg, NASA is do something - just not the large scale things right now but if this Moon/Mars thing kicks in we're back to LARGE scope projects again and maybe more model kits will be produced.

i guess they have done somthing in the last 40 years................ but why don't they build a fare size ship, put alot of people in it, foilage, farms to make food, (imagine a macdonalds on this thing..........money money money Wink [;)]Tongue [:P]) and but it on a giant rail gun and shoot it into space? while they are flying through space they can think of a way to stop.... they will possibley run into some aliens, learn how travel in sapce, come back to earth, and vola! space travel is possible.

what is the point of probes? they just go through space doing......... and what are those porr people doing in the space station? other than floating around in a tin can. i heard that if this mars thing work out (which it probaly will) than they (not sure who.. NASA maybe?) will launch ships from there because of the less gravity.

also: i know how to have gravity on a space craft/station Big Smile [:D] i'll never tell..... unless i get money out of it... or a free space ship when space travel is possible. i plan on being an aerospace engineer so if they haven't figuered it out by then.... it will be known.....
