Heavily weathered Slave 1
Posted by maxx1969 on Thursday, June 17, 2004 11:34 PM
Here are some pics of AMT/Ertl's Slave 1. After it sits on my bench for about a week I'll find some touch up painting or changes needed, but for now I thought I would share what I have.

Thanks for looking,

Wow, that does look great! How did you acheive the chipping effect?

Thanks. I got the weathering idea from a the July 2003 issue of Fine Scale( Weathering with salt). YUP! I thought the same thing... Confused [%-)]I wasn't sure if it would work in as large of an area at a time but Slave 1 seemed the best test. I'm happy with the results.

Thanks again for all the positive feedback. It was kind of a leap of faith but I thought what the heck...theres always sand paper.Big Smile [:D]
For example I'm on my third attempt at paintingBanged Head [banghead]sand...paintingCensored [censored]sand...painting Voyager. I guess I'm becoming a little less paint shy.

Hey, I've been waiting to see one of these built up. You did it fine justice. Very well done. What's your secret for the chipped-paint effect?

Thanks zokissima, it's the weather with salt idea. It was in the July 2003 FSM. I found though that in working in such a large area that it got better results by dipping a wide brush into water a then letting the salt take the water off the brush. The resulting damp clump of salt stuck a little better to the surface of the model. Then you can move this clump around and spred it out along panel line or edges. I have to say I was both suprized and releaved with the results.
