Sci-Fi kitbashing with Household junk
Posted by Anonymous on Friday, August 13, 2004 5:52 PM
Hi there all,
Love Sci-fi of all descriptions ,especially StarWars, Alien, UFO, Space1999 and what ever takes my fancy. My fave modelling is making stuff from every day household objects and mixing them with kit parts to come up with something totally original.
I have just done my first web site and would like to know what you think .

You have a loaded site with nice looking work, topgun. My favorites are your Aliens Loader and Skeleton with armor.

Regards, Dan

Great site and models! Cool [8D] I have thought about starting a group build, in the future, based on a common household item (like those AOL CD's that keep rolling in - LOL)

You have way too much time and stuff on your hands!! Smile [:)] Lotta neat models. Yes I like the idea of creating a ship from everyday objects too. That would be a nice build Woody.
I'd be interested.
On that note, I saw this one over at Starship Modeler:

Thanks for the link and pics Topgun.

Great Inspiration. After about four years of Planning, I'm finally getting my StarGate built, The ring is from foam board, the Chevrons are made from old medicine bottles and the tines off of plastic forks, and who knows what will be next. It looks awful until you start painting it... then it starts to come to life. I hope to have some pics in the next couple of weeks to show you all and ask for improvement ideas. I'm starting to like this scratchbuilding idea. Once you start thinking out of the box, the whole way you shop at wally world starts to change.

Hee Hee. I know what your saying. I've been looking at the world through "scratchbuilders eyes" for years.

Thanks for the comments guys and yes it 's amazing what happens now when you go shopping. First you look for the item then consider which one has the best packing or container for your Sci-fi builds. Its amazing the amount of things i've bought for my wife just because the container would look great on my latest project. I will of course update the piccies in the near future when i've got a bit further on.

cool site. now i know what to do with the kit that i ruined the paint on. Can you justify scratch building a space ship just because you have a cockpit you dont want to bin???

Hey-
I love shopping Big Lots and hardware stores looking for elements for my scratchbuild. Take a look at this model-

http://homepage.mac.com/johnselvia/PhotoAlbum10.html

The big round part is a clear clock face, the hinged hatches are sliced-up ping-pong balls. Fun stuff.

Also, a few years ago, the local Big Lots got a cache of Star Wars and Star Trek models and sold them for $4.98 each!

X-wings, tie fighters, voyager, enterprise, maqui ships, ATATs, ATSTs, cutaway enterprise, cutaway millenium falcon, regular falcon, regular enterprise, etc.

So I bought about 15 of them for kitbashing purposes! Parts galore!!!

Nice!!! Big Smile [:D]

I have my own model made out of found objects. Not anywhere near as big or as good as yours Tongue [:P]
- but nothing to be ashamed of either.

Made it after a Rick Sternbach design from the Chronology. Take a look:

I love everything about the Chronology. You have done an excellent job of bringing a 2D sketch(a poor one at that) into reality. She is a beauty. Cool [8D]Thumbs Up [tup]
