Just saw on Sci Fi channel that the new series is coming in January. I really hope to see some decent kits come out of this!

I was lucky enough to get my hands on some beautiful pics of the CG model of the Galactica. I have my doubts that anyone will do a mass produced model of her justice. I hope I'm wrong but I remember the first model of the Galactica. I guess a poor kit would be better than no kit.

Now, that's what I call "some" refferences. I've scratchbuild an entire model, but seeing those drawings make my hands itch. If only I hadn't so many projects going......

If you scratch build this Galatica, it will take a year just to get that rib look to it. I think I will wait for a kit on this one.

you know with all this CG modelling it would put Studio modelers out of a job.

On the workbench: Dragon 1/350 scale Ticonderoga class USS BunkerHill 1/720 scale Italeri USS Harry S. Truman 1/72 scale Encore Yak-6

Very true. It's a shame because real models looks so. . . ah. . . real!
I guess they save a ton of cash using CG.

It's because the 3D guys are working for less than they deserve. I think it just comes down to being able to have all the FX done in the same office space as the production staff and editors.

Dan, you are so right. I would be neat having both Galaticas side by side. Of course you would also need to have both era vipers doing fly-bysCool [8D]

I work with a laser cutter. The ribs would actually be the easy part. The details are the killer on that ship.

Hoping for some help, sometime in the past 72 hours, I saw a Viper build up in which someone added lights to the engines, they claimed it was the same lights used in the studio minutures, where bright enough to create the effect, yet cool enough to be safe. Dumb me failed to bookmark this source, and can't relocate it to save my life. is anyone familar with this build0up, or have an idea on what lighting system I might be in need of? Thanks! -Lee

Hello Lee, Welcome to the forum. Is this the Viper in question? http://www.smallartworks.ca/Gallery/Viper/Viper.html

That's it, thank you very much! Those Grain of Wheat lights look sweet. I've just ordered a studio scale X-Wing kit and would like to do the same with her engines.

That's a beauty! To me that will always be the way the "real" Batmoblie looks.
You should shoot some pics and show your Batmoblie here in the Sci-Fi section. Really great work.Cool [8D]

Now, that's what I would call scratchbuilding, now all we need is a Galactica model on 1:1 scale Smile [:)]

Interesting concept of remaking the series, it was one of my favorites when I was a young tyke.

Interesting choices for casting too. As a Canadian, its difficult to visualize anyone but the late, great Lorne Greene as Adama, but Edward James Almos is definitely a respectable choice.

The one that really got me is the recasting of the Starbuck character as a woman! If memory serves me correctly, the original Starbuck was played by Dirk Benedict and he was a hard drinking, cigar chomping, brawling, womanizing gambler!

Should make for interesting viewing, providing a channel will carry it here in the Czech Republic.
