Klingon Ship Colors?
Posted by Anonymous on Monday, August 16, 2004 7:22 AM
I've been staring at two Star Trek kits I have had for a few years now and I think I'm ready to tackle one. Does anyone know the main colors to use on a TOS Klingon Cruiser and on the newer Klingon Cruiser from ST:TNG? Thanks for any help!

that depends on what you want to do a TOS klingon vessel use medium gray or for the Klingon vessel from the movies use Tamiyas Dark Green and as for the ST:TNG Vorcha Klingon Cruiser try using Testors light blue.

On the workbench: Dragon 1/350 scale Ticonderoga class USS BunkerHill 1/720 scale Italeri USS Harry S. Truman 1/72 scale Encore Yak-6

Thanks for the info! I'd forgotten that the newer Klingon ship was called the Vorcha Class.

Have any of you guys ever painted a D-7 in that two tone scheme that is referred to on the page I linked?

On the upper side of TOS Klingon I add a small amount of purple to the gray color so the answer is yes I have done the two-tone scheme.

I'll check my photos and if I find them will email a copy. The TOS was painted in two shades, the engine and the head were a different color than the body. This is clearly shown in the color photos I have of the original filming minature at the Smithsonian.

I just looked at the IDC page listed on a previous post. The photo shows what I mentioned- the two shades, a green and a gray on the original filming minature.
This is the "Real" colors- this minature was returned to the studio from the Smithsonian to be used as a guide when they made TSMP.

I did make a video of the Klingon ship when it was at the once-in-a-lifetime viewing of all the major props at the Smithsonian back in July, 1992. I made a video of the whole exihibit...a walk through from end to end and concentrating on the props.

The Klingon ship was two different shades of gray. It was subtle but it did show a slight difference.

Unbashed plug...I do sell the CD/video on an MPEG format of the Smithsonian/Star Exhibit at Ebaby. Shy [8)]

Yeah, but doesn't that page I posted say that the model was repainted long after the show was canned? The pics in the link I posted show two distinctly different colors.
