For those not familiar, http://www.starfleet-museum.org/york_min_cal.jpg

Excellent Choice, Dan. I believe no one would disagree. I guess you must be a Jedi Knight, because it feels like a Jedi Mind trick :P

Thank you Matt, Woody and Rio!

I am taking a short break and concentrating on my Toybiz Hulk but will get back on another shortly. I am thinking of a Yorktown class dropping out a baby minotaur...

Quite correct, Modelnut! Galaxy Quest, more than any recent official Trek movie, preserves the spirit of the original Star Trek. Much better than Insurrection, Generations, and whatever else has been made.

Galaxy Quest not a Trek movie???

Superficially it isn't. But it most certainly is. Big Smile [:D]

The ship is the NTE-3120 N.S.E.A. PROTECTOR.
The NTE stands for Not The ENTERPRISE. Clown [:o)]Clown [:o)]Clown [:o)]

Galaxy Quest was the best Star Trek movie of the last decade! And it had a nice emblem. Had to use it.

Your designs show more variety! Big Smile [:D]

And here are some links to B5:

Take a look and enjoy! But I like your designs just the way they are!

Kickin' around the idea of building a Conqueror class ship. But [:0] have you any idea how big that would be in 350th!!!
I think I might go for a 1000th scale build-up instead. Wink [;)]

What's this "Enterprise" you mention? Never heard of it!

Seriously, now, I don't much like the "Enterprise" style. I am designing a bunch of cargo ships, but more in the style of TOS.

Thanks, Modelnut.
As far as I know, the Starfleet Museum is all Trek, all the time! I based some of the earlier (Romulan War era) ships on fusion energy, so they have to lug around a lot of deuterium. That makes the ships fat. Other than that, the ships follow standard Federation design principles. I never watched much B5 and have never read Honor Harrington.

Very nice! Fantastic paint job!

I have done some rooting around in the StarFleet Museum. Some really good art in there and lots of great ideas for scratchbuilding!
But a definite departure from the Star Trek style. Seems to be a bit of the Babylon 5 design ethic thrown in with a bit of Honor Harrington. I like it. Big Smile [:D]

Not that I need any more ideas for scratchbuilding... Black Eye [B)]

Wow that made it pop! Looks like it only needs two more things to be perfect, a little cheescake nose art and the correct postage to get it to MO. ! Wink [;)]Tongue [:P]Big Smile [:D]

Thanks Masao and Rio.

I did change it a bit... I like the red stripe in the insignia, even though it isnt correct due to the time period. I also didnt use the medium blue and yellow but clear colors to let the aluminum show through.

Rio, I use 2 desklamps with 100 watt incandescent bulbs and position them to get the best possible lighting. I also use a piece of cotton batting for the background to help diffuse the light. I use a Sony Mavica 2.0 Megapixel camera and shut the flash off when taking pictures.

"Futile, Resistance is"

An Assimilated Yoda would have said those words when encountering your ship. Looking better and better. I think it needs more decals to have a more close resemblance to the original. But then, I would say that your ship is an original, to which the original illustration should be adjusted to. :P

Hey, Dan. I wanted to ask ya a question; What light set up do you have?
I recently purchased an 8 megapixel Nikon Coolpix 8700 with awesome results. However, when it comes to close photography, the built-in flash overexposes the subject, washing everything out in the pictures. Do you have floodlights, studio lights (incandescent or strobe)? I know diffusers make a nice even portrait without harsh shadows. Could you give some pointers?

Thanks and keep up the good work,
Riö<*>

Here's a pic of the original P-51 I was trying to copy. It's called Lou IV. If you want to follow the original more closely, note that the US insignia doesn't have a red bar (used only after 1947) and that the black stripes are bordered by white stripes (used to mark air Allied aircraft for D-Day).

Thanks Woody and Snoopy!

Here's the latest...I've painted the stand and ship with Tamiya clear yellow/gold leaf and clear blue. I've cut a bunch of decal shapes of different colors and plastered them all over....

Dan,

That is very impressive. I wish I had access to a lathe to try some ideas out. That is one fine looking piece. I had yet to see anything but excelence from people in this GB. Guys, my hat goes off to you.

Looking great Dan! That stand is a real beauty too. I'll bet you could sell the fire out of those to Star Trek modelers! Wink [;)]
