Jupiter 2
Posted by kestrel0222 on Sunday, September 5, 2004 12:11 PM
Hi,
I have been in this great hobby for almost 40 years now. I have been modeling W W II fighters and modern day jet fighters for my entire time in this hobby. I want to embark on the "Sci-Fi" area of this hobby. I am interested in modeling (if it is available) the Jupiter 2 spacecraft from the 1960's TV series. I am also interested in the "Voyage To The Bottom Of The Sea" models. Do any of you know if these kits exist?
Thanks,
Tom

Hi ya kestrel0222 ...

You my friend are in luck ... well sort of ... Polar Lights makes both of the kits you are seeking ... er, well they did make both kits ... I am almost certain that they are out of production now ... check out their web site:

http://www.playingmantis.com/pl/index.php

I would keep my eyes peeled on eBay ... I am pretty sure you will be able to find the kits you want sooner or later ... good luck and have fun !!! Smile,Wink, & Grin [swg]

Hi again kestrel0222 ...

... as they say on the news ... standby for the latest update !!!

I have good news ... I checked the Polar Lights web site ... as I hope you will too ... and one of your wishes ... the Seaview from the old TV show Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea IS still in production ... so it shouldn't be too hard to find at your LHS ... or perhaps they could order one or two for you ... Smile,Wink, & Grin [swg]

As for the Jupiter 2 the Polar Lights web site confirms that they once made this ship ... but, no longer do ... so ... again good hunting ... and keep us posted with reports and pictures ... eh? Approve [^]

The PL Jupiter 2 can still be found occasionally in hobby shops. There are also some nice aftermarket accessories for it: pilot seats, corrected landing gear, decals, lighted fusion core and more. If you want to show the interior, the pilot seats and the decal set are a must. To find this stuff, you can do a search at www.starshipmodeler.com.
Good luck!

Our Hobbytown has several PL kits of the Seaview. I was thinking about getting one somewhere down the road.

Woody, the site didn't work. Looks like it's missing something.

Tom, let me know if you can't find a Jupiter2, I think I may be able to get you a fair deal on a Chrome J-2 if you're interested.
