Dinky UFO Shado Interceptor
Posted by Anonymous on Wednesday, September 8, 2004 6:32 PM
Decisions , Decisions . I have an old Dinky UFO Shado Interceptor and Ican't decide wether to repaint it in its original metalic green Dinky color or to paint it in the film color of white with red stripe. It did not have the original nose bomb, so I have turned one on my lathe but I could paint that which ever way to match.
What do you guys think? Help me decide ,Please!

Paint it like the studio model. I did that with one of mine a lond time ago. Looked cool. That weird green was the same color they did the Eagle Transporter in(sucks). While your at it build a nice launch pad/crater for it. My two cents.

Cheers Steve , Think I will hold on a while but it looks promising . Also got the two Eagles, one green and one white but can't be bothered with them. Fancy scratchbuilding a film size one of those sometime. Lol

I'd like to do one of the big Eagles someday. Too many things on my list. Also a "someday" project I'd love to scratch this:

Probably never will. Be sure to post pics of the Interceptor.

I was in the fortunate position of being able to speak to Mike Trim at the most Recent Fanderson convention. AS he worked on the series, he was able to confirm that the Interceptors were all a VERY pale blue, more of a hint of blue really.

The panel in front of the cockpit, which on the dinky toy would have been chromed, should be matt Olive Drab, NOT black.

Hope this helps

Colin

That is helpful, Colin, thanks. Its hard to tell from pics or onscreen what some of the colors are. Looks like I'll have to re-paint mine.

My friend Phil Rae owns one of the original film Interceptors and if I can get in touch with him, I will get some photos and stick them here for all to see. Will check on the color scheme as well.

I've seen them; unfortunately, time has not been kind in that the paintwork has yellowed (apparently this is as much due to nicotine as old age)
