Looking for a Star Trek model . . .
Posted by Anonymous on Tuesday, September 21, 2004 12:29 AM
Hello, I'm looking for a Star Trek model of the runabout. I haven't had much luck finding a model of it online or in stores. I know they stopped making them a couple of years ago at least. Any help would be much appreciated!

Thanks,

Brian

Hey B, a few more posts and you will get a wonderful little star by that name of yours and you won't be listed as a snap-together builder anymore! It was good seeing you and your cousin on Saturday! Looking forward to you getting a kit and getting back into modeling! Dan put the upper deck in his USS Constitution today, it looks great!Big Smile [:D]

Hey, try www.Federationmodels.com. I know that they have some in 1/1400 scale, but I am sure you want it a little bit bigger. Check it out, you might get lucky.

Yep, eBay has a couple of 'em. I snagged one a few weeks ago. Just be prepared for 3 things with this kit as far as fit is concerned.

1. The top half of the hull shell is warped somewhat in the middle and doesn't mate to the bottom hull easily.

2. The nacelles are a royal pain in the posterior with the flux chiller grills.

3. The windows in the aft conference area need to be file down between the panes in order for them to fit properly. Don't force fit them, they will split!

Just my observations on the kit. Otherwis, it paints nicely and a little weathering will give you nice model.

Thanks for all the help, guys! I'm looking at all those sites now to find the best deal. Also, much thanks to Fokkerpilot for your insight on possible troubles with that particular model.

Check out this one on e-bay. It's on my watch list. I was thinking about buying it. If you want it go for it. The price is great.:

Hey there fr_ball_xl5 welcome to the forums! Why don't you go post in the new member forum area so you can be really welcomed by those who don't read the Sci-Fi area? And I would love to help you but couldn't make heads or tails out of your message? Guess I spend too much time in the armor forum, NOT! Anyway welcome and hopefully someone will figure out what you are looking for! Big Smile [:D]

I just received the model on Thursday (10/21/04). I went to the local white elephant and picked up a bunch of paint that I needed to paint the ship. I just put the second coat on the top hull piece. There are only 44 pieces to this model. I guess that means that I don't have to work too hard to finish it by Christmas.

Oh my gosh, I might have a heart attack! B actually wrote! Ha, ha, ha! Glad to hear you got your kit and some paints! For those of you who don't know the White Elephant is a hobby/outdoor shop in Spokane Wa where you can find some interesting older model kits! They have two locations there... Happy painting B, when can we expect some pictures online?
