STGB Tholian Web Spinner (Complete)
Posted by maxx1969 on Wednesday, September 22, 2004 3:27 PM
I finally got started on the Spinner and have one of the wings built up. Its not much to look at but then there really is not a whole lot to one of these.Tongue [:P] The plan is to make this wing a master for three matching pieces and opens up the option to build the Aurora. The wings will be hallow cast (in clear for lighting) with the perforated sheet in place if it catches the detail otherwise the sheets will be added later.
This view shows the top profile and over all length of 10".

Here is the aft view showing the wedge shape.

And here is a side view showing the perforated sheet taped in place.

Matt, Your off to a strong start.Approve [^] Looks great so far. I just got back from the salt mines and I'm trying to decide if I have enough energy left to do some building myself.

Hey there Woody. Not much, I decided to down size the spinner to a 5" rather then 10" model to make it less costly to cast. Resin is cheap but that RTV will kill the pocket book.Laugh [(-D] I have the three wings (if you can call them that) done and started cutting out parts for the center section. I should be done in a week or two.

Looks to be 1:196th scale. Its all together now and once the sanding and filling work is done I can get into the painting.

Heres my 2nd build. I'm thinking I need to darken the gray a little more with the camera flash it almost looks white. At 1:196th scale she's 5" long. The plan is to build a second one to go on the rod behind the spinner.

Cool [8D]Thumbs Up [tup] She's a beauty ! I love the idea of two of them displayed like that. It would make for a great scene.
