Cruis'in, Klingon style (with more pic's)
Posted by therriman on Friday, October 8, 2004 4:19 PM
I just finished this old AMT Klingon D7 Cruiser. I built it straight out of the box. I Futured, Flat coated, and washed, flat coated again. I've added some weight to the rear of the stand to make her more secure. This was my first successful attempt at a wash. Thanks joe and larry for the advice. It worked.

Sweet! Where did you get the color scheme? Is it Romulan?

No, that's the scheme that the directions said to use. It was the kit boxed as Star Trek VI. I'll get a top and bottom view on a little bit.

Here we go, the first one is a pic of the bottom side. You can see the styrene sheets I used to cover the weights in the base.

The next one is a photo of the top.

And the next one is a photo of the 2 Klingon ships I have built (including the OoB I won on the Bird of Prey), as well as the 4 I have waiting to build. To be honest the other AMT D7 Cruiser will be pieced out into a Scratchbuilt Spaceship I am building. But I just had to add it.

Wow you really showed off the panels and nice work around the torpedo emitter. The BOP looks great too. I'm looking forward to seeing more of your work.

looking good. I have one of the ST6 Klingon cruisers built as well. The one like yours that was Chancellor Gorkon's ship.

Yours turned out much better though, well done!

I have the older AMT original series cruiser that I am not sure how to proceed with as it is pretty basic

cheers

Yea, the original series cruiser was pretty basic on detail. These later one's give you a lot more to work with.

Matt, the "detail" around the torpedo emitter was a decal. and insde the hole was plain nothing. I painted black to "hide" that fact, and to give it some depth. I probably should have scratchbuilt some detail to put in their, however I'm planning on entering in a contest as an "OOB".

Now if I could get up the nerve to put a wash on the BoP. I really should. However I hate to change a "winner".

The original AMT Klingon could be built up something like this. This would be your starting point:

not so sure about lighting it as I inherited the kit built but unpainted from a mate. He gave me the decal sheet and stand as well.

I amy just go over the gaps and bad construction, fixing up as I go and paint/weather. Alternatively I will get the new Polar Lights one and sit it next to my Planned PL Enterprise build?

BTW, does sanyone have any old AMT TV series Enterprise decals not being used?

Love to rebuild my old AMT NCC-1701!!

cheers
