Looking for large scale tank tracks and wheels
Posted by Anonymous on Sunday, October 24, 2004 7:50 AM
Anyone know where I can get 1/15 or 1/16 scale tank tracks and wheels? I'm doing a sci-fi land vehicle (scratch and kitbashed), but need some large tank treads and don't want to buy one of those great Tamiya 1/16 scale ww2 tanks just to get the treads. I searched google, but can only find 1/35 scale.

I could resin cast my own, but to make working tracks that way sounds like a nightmare.

Thanks.
John

Building a Landram? Smile [:)] You might try asking also in the Armor section. Someone may have leftovers. What are you working on? Any drawings you could share with us? I think "sci-fi ground vehicles" would be a nice Group Build.

I don't know if they still make it, but look for a Kyosho Blizzard. It's a radio controlled tracked snow crawler- I think it's 1/12 scale, but might still fit what you need.

Good luck with your project! Big Smile [:D]

A cheaper option than above would be to buy one of the Trumpeter 1/16 T-34 models. The tracks snap together and the wheels have rubber tyres, or possibly contact Trumpeter to see if they will sell the tracks alone, in the kit they are boxed separately.

There are several 1/15 scale Bandai Hummels of Ebay right now. They are pretty expensive, but reasonable for their availability. Does it have to be that scale? There are plenty of 1/25th scale tank kits. The most plentiful are the Academy Jagd Panther and Panther. Are you building a Space:1999 Moon Tank? The studio model was based on a 1/25th scale Cheiftain. Hope this helps.

Check out the toy section in your local stores. Large tanks are definitely in vogue and you can find some pretty detailed tracks and wheels on some of these. I have been looking for a turret for a scratch hover tank and have seen several possibilities but most seem to be of Abrams.
