Enterprise-E masking
Posted by Anonymous on Friday, November 26, 2004 2:15 PM
Has anyone come out with a set of masks for the Enterprise-E? I'm about to lose my mind trying to mask this beast!!??!
If not, how do you mask something like this without losing your sight and/or mind??
BTW, I'm in my late-40's and the eyes are going, going... Dead [xx(]

Aw feel yer pain. I don't think there are any. We were hoping Walker Enterprises would release the "D" set, but that seems to have fizzled. You'll just have to do it the old fashioned way, sacrificing your sanity. You could try Post-it notes or frisket masks.

Maybe Tamiya tape...I don't know. It's a wonderful scheme, but it's so blasted complex to mask out. I used to think WW II camo was difficult, but it's nothing compared to this. Maybe the wet navy builders can give me some hints?

if you can find someone with the excelsior templates by Walker enterprises they will work quite well.if not ,using .15 sheet styrene, carefully using a stright edge and an exacto knife make your own templates. cut a template for one section of the saucer and then a second template exactly opposite the first.alternate the templates as you go round the saucer.by manipulating these two templates you can avoid making the aztec pattern completely.on the other sections of the ship you can cut another template which doesnt have the rounded orientation as necessary for the saucer section.if not you can still use the same template used for the saucer by masking off small sections of the ship.use the templates on each section and at that scale it's almost impossible to notice that the pattern has a round versus straight design.place the template one at a time over each individual section using a mixture of your color mixed 50/50 with clear dull coat.be sure to alternate the two templates when spaying the saucer section. by manipulating the templates you can use them for any part of the ship. this method still involves a good deal of work but it is only a tenth of the time you will spend masking the entire ship.Good luck!Big Smile [:D]
