Howdy, kaiju fans! Smile [:)]

To celebrate Godzilla's 50th anniversary, I finally got around to scanning and posting some pix of my old Godzilla builds, now all in storage back in the US.
Strangely, I haven't built a single G-kit since I've lived in Japan (but I sure have bought plenty of 'em during my eleven years here!).

Looking at the scanned and enlarged pix, I can spot lots of flaws (obvious seams, sloppy painting, etc.), but I still like these old guys. I hope they haven't melted in the Georgia heat after all these years in storage!

Anyway, have a look and a laff, and all comments are of course welcome.

The pix (the color is kinda weird, ain't it?):

The kits are from Paradise, Inoue Arts, Billiken, Kaiyodo, Bandai, and Aurora, and represent seven incarnations of the Big G.

Want to get the large PL version and add my own buildings, etc. Thought I got a deal on ebay but didn't look at the pic good enough. Turned out to be the Aurora kit redone.

Okay, Opinion time.
How big is Godzilla? Seems to change about every shot you see. Want to add some armor in the dio (not sure if Shermans or Chaffees with those Japan Self Defense markings) and easiest to get a hold of are 72nd but look too big compared to the 16" version.
What do you all think?

Larry's right!
The Toho FX boys weren't too concerned with scale continuity, that's for sure.

But for the record, according to Toho stats, during his career he has been 50, 55, 60, 80, and 100 meters tall. Thats 164, 180, 197, 262, 328 feet tall, respectively.

The only film where G's height changed as part of the story line was 1991's Godzilla VS King Ghidora. G changed from 80 to 100 meters between appearances after having been temporally (that's temporally, not temporarily!) displaced and juiced up with modern nukes (and a nuclear sub).
It''s a long story; rent the video! Tongue [:P]

Ok, based on those numbers. The PL 16" kit would be either
1/123rd, 1/135th, 1/148th, 1/197th or 1/246th. Hmmm... guess 1/144th stuff works for most of this. Come on Dragon, need some Sherman's and/or Chaffee's.
Oh yeah, still need the PL kit. Anyone want to get rid of one?

Hey Philip,

To be correct, the PL Godzilla represents the 54' version, so he'd be at the small end of the scale. But who cares that much? Find ya some Sheman Minitanks or similar and have fun!

Usually we get to see some good Jieitai (Kai, Kuu and Riku) action in these films, but GFW doesn't feature any. Too many monsters, I guess! Wink [;)]

Beautiful J-Hulk! Don't know if you play video games, but you may want to check out the Godzilla - Save the Earth. You can play as Godzilla (4 different ones), Mothra, King Ghidorah, etc... Destroy buildings, pick up things (ships, tanks, buldings) and the sounds like they got the original sounds effect just right. Here's a picture...

They even have that Radar-looking-ray-tank to come and freeze you once in a while. Alas, no littlle Japanese boy that runs around screaming though. My kids wipe my aging butt with this game all the time. I don't mind cause I can make Godzilla roar just for fun.

jhulk, thanks for posting your pictures. That's nothing to laugh at , that's a nice collection. Those Kaiyodo and Billiken vinyls are so much fun to build - they go together easily, look good without a lot of effort, and you just want to start another as soon as you finish one. ..

Yeah, the Billikens are VERY easy to build! (cut-pop-pop-pop-DONE!)
That big Paradise Biogoji was a bit of a challenge, but it was also the second or third vinyl kit I had ever built, and it's a ton of vinyl!
Gotta get to work on my Billiken G68 and MG2!!

Yeah, it just came out over here December 9th, where it's called "Gojira: Kaiju Dairantou" (Godzilla: The Great Monster Struggle). No mention of saving the Earth here! My sweetie begrudgingly acknowledged that it would indeed be a good Christmas gift for me (bless her heart!), so hopefully I'll get to play it from the 25th! Big Smile [:D]

Just saw the dvd of Godzilla SOS and loved it! My favorite of the Millenium series and I finally really like Godzilla's new look. Also, for the first time I'm really impressed with Mothra! Great score too! Looking forward to seeing Final Wars now!

By the way, next month I start filming a new instructual dvd on building Godzilla/Kaiju kits. My co-worker has started a new company filming promotional dvds and he wants to do one on me as a demo. His work is absolutely awesome and I believe we are gonna seriously raise the bar on modeling video with this one. It will have an original score, animation and gallery of kits and more. Will keep you posted

Yup, SOS was pretty good! Good-lookin' G.
GFW is totally different than the Millennium series. In my opinion, it's much better. It's certainly a wild ride!

Looking forward to seeing your DVD! Sounds like it's gonna rock!
