Need a Refresher...
Posted by Enzo_Man on Sunday, December 26, 2004 9:01 PM
My last Resin kit was a FSS V. Siren 103n Neptune by Volks. I did it about several years ago and for the death of me I can't remember the tricks for working with resin. I just got the V. Siren 104 Prominence by Volks. Could you guys refresh my memory for working these things? Like best primer, glues, paints - Anything. How would you go about getting the awesome orange on the 104? Thanks a million guys!!

Here is what I do.

1.) Wash the Resin and clean the moolding pieces, flash and moldlines off.
2.) Identify which parts need to be pinned together for extra stability
3.) drill the holes and add the pin.
4.) Assemble the parts with 5-minute epoxy glue,
5.) Fill the gaps with epoxy putty, NOT the 2 stick epoxy putty.
6.) Prime the Kit. Best primer what is that??
7.) Paint the kit, take your pick. Remember you are painting on top of the primer.

The orange on the prominence, I think your best bet might be multiple light coats of clear orange over a white or whitish metallic base.

HTH.

Cool deal, Model. That sounds familiar to what I did on the first one. What I meant by the primer is like, auto primer, krylon, testors.... Thanks!

I have used Tamiya, Mr. Resin, Surfacer 1000 & 1200 and Mr. Base White successfully, but I do believe that all the other should also work ok.

That would also work, just go easy on the pearlcoat.

I hear ya on the pearl! I tried to use it once over another color. I almost lost the color! I'll be thinning it more than usual. Thanks again!
