Wave 1/12 Powered Suit
Posted by Anonymous on Sunday, January 16, 2005 10:28 PM
I have started on the above kit and have identified a few areas that I want to improve, mostly small small lights and similar areas.

For the guys that missed the earlier posts it is loosely based on the suits from the "Starship Troopers" books.

Overall a very nice fully articulated kit with more than 160parts(estimate) to it.
Due to the amount of parts there will be quiet a few seams that will need to be puttied and sanded smooth, definately not going to be a quick weekend build.

Finished item will be quiet big and looks really cool, IMO.

I should have pics of the first few assemblies soon.

Ok, Pics are delayed a few days as I just got the PDF creation Software which will be used to create the "Modellers Gazette".

Looking forward to your pix, MM.
I have yet to come across this kit in Osaka!
Still looking...

Starship Troopers powered armor? I can't wait to see what you've got there.
A day in the Corps is like a day on the farm; every meal is a banquet, every paycheck a fortune, every formation a parade... The Marine Corps is a department of the Navy? Yeah...The Men's Department.

Too cool! I guess I've just added this to the "if I come across it and have the money, I've got to get one" list for my stash.

J-Hulk.

You might have to get it from HLJ, I get the feeling it might be a limited release to only a few retailers.
I hear more and more of the japanese companies are doing that now.

What really impresses me with the kit is the attention to detail, like the knee-joint, etc.
Polycaps are very well hidden on this kit and it just comes together so beautifully.

I wouldn't expect the kit to be seen at any LHS outside of Japan.

Wave of Japan is a fairly smallish kit manufacturer but their kits and tools are top-notch.
Most of their kits are in fairly limited numbers some of their more recent kits will be of interest to overseas modellers and your best bet methinks will be to buy either from Hobby Link Japan or Rainbow 10.

2 other recent/upcoming releases are the Nautilus and Nemo Car from "League of extraordinary gentlemen".

But be warned you pay for their quality.

Cool! The kit seems to be based on designs from the anime from the late 1980s, Uchu no Senshi (Starship Troopers). Read and see about it here (scroll down to the bottom). Here too: http://www.trooperpx.com/AFS/AFS01.html

Never seen it, but got to build the Bandai Soft Vinyl kit of the anime suit last year.

Rumour has it that it was actually released in 1984 for one of the Daikon shows, the anime I think came out in 1989.

One thing before people get confused, here is some background about the Wave kit.
As far as i can make it out.

Studio Nue designed BOTH the Anime and the Wave kit version of the Suit.
Which of the two designs was done first I am not sure, but I would assume that the Wave kit is the older design.
The Anime was produced by Nippon Sunrise which in turn is owned by Bandai.
Bandai issued the Anime version as a Soft Vinyl kit, which can still be found at times.

The current desigg(Wave), AFAIK, was released in a variety of action toy formats, the most recent one was produced by Kaiyodo in 1/20 scale. They also offered an unassembled version of the toy.

Kaiyodo a few years ago somwhat pulled out of the industry and is concentrating more on their actual core business (Museum displays with animals, sculpting, etc).

Wave seems to have aquired the licence from Studio Nue and has released a 1/12 scale Plastic Model of it.

HTH.

Kinda ironic, having to order from HLJ FROM Japan!

I'll be in Shizuoka for the big modeller's flea market the weekend after next, and will have a chance to pop into Rainbow Ten. They might have it.

Man, I'm really kicking myself for never trying to get up to the Home Islands while I was stationed in Okinawa. I had a great LHS there that had more than I could have hoped to build, but to actually get up to Shizouka, just once, would have been something else.

Quiet a lot of my japanese friends order from them as they often have stock that their LHS is out of.

Worth a try, never been down that way myself.
Alternatively, you could take a detour to Tokyo and visit WAVE /BE-J.

Greetings colleagues,
My first post here.

I too have picked up the WAVE: 1/12 "Power Suit" SST kit. And it is a beauty.
I am hoping to build before too long but time is something I'm short on these
days. I'm just glad I noticed at HLJ and got one before they vanish.
I got the 1/20 KAIYODO figure/kit a few years back. The figure is nice in it's
own right but this kit blows it away as far as detail and articulation.
But there is one thing the KAIYODO kit/toy has that the new model doesn't,
which is the "Powersuit Reference Handbook". Does anybody know where
there is a translation of this SST collectors gem? I've worn Google out looking
for one, but to no avail.
