Sad news for the Interdictor
Posted by maxx1969 on Wednesday, February 2, 2005 2:13 AM
Try as I might there was no way to provide lighting for all locations of the Interdictor. The lighting was an after thought and was not factored into the construction and I was not happy with only partial lighting. Basically I built myself into a corner. The hull was constructed to keep any chance of warping out of the equation and in doing so left many of the deck levels too obstructed to work fiber optics into or even drill out windows and provide a single interior light source. The project was a warm up for something bigger and I have definitely learned some new tactics to scratch building along the way. The up side is I will be able to finish up some small detail work and paint the buggerBig Smile [:D]
Here are the last pics before painting:

I'm still happy with the over all build and hope to tackle more projects this size in the future. Thanks again to everyone for their support and interest in this project.

Can't you paint the areas that you want lit white??
I know many models are finished that way, where only sections are lit in reality and the rest are fake lights.

Still a great build in my mind. Glad to hear you're going to put your newfound knowledge to work on other builds!

That works in some cases and is the case in many studio models but in this scale and with all the nooks and crannies it might not play off all that well. I am satisfied with it as a modest display piece though and can't complainBig Smile [:D]

Alternate solution paint it with "Glow in the Dark" colour. Big Smile [:D]

j/k of course, actually I got a spray-can sitting but so far have failed to build a model that would suit it.
Hmmm, UFO or ship-model would be prefered for that.

You know if you could do it right it would be cool to paint a project normal in the light and glow look like a ghost ship or wreck at night. Hmmm might just have to try that out sometime.

I have seen it done on puzzles, and I know there are also colour powders that are activated by blacklight that you can mix into your normal colours.

Don't let it get you down Matt. In my opinion it is a beautifully done model and I can't wait to see it painted.

I'm just in awe of the work you've done on the Interdictor, she's a beauty. Have you thought of a Imperial-sounding name for her?

Some day, I'm going to try my hand at some Star Wars capital ships. What scale does this one and the Star Destroyer in the above pic work out to?

Did I mention how awesome this looks?
A day in the Corps is like a day on the farm; every meal is a banquet, every paycheck a fortune, every formation a parade... The Marine Corps is a department of the Navy? Yeah...The Men's Department.
