Preshade Idea for E-D
Posted by Anonymous on Tuesday, February 8, 2005 1:33 PM
Got an idea I would like to share with the group and get some feedback of what people think.
I am fixing to start the ERTL Enterprise D kit and was thinking of a good way to accomplish the aztec paneling with airbrush work rather than hand brush. I have done pre-shading on aircraft before with success and thought of how it could be done precisely on this kit.
The idea:
Using a dark (black, green, blue or even varying the colors) permanent marker on the primed surface of the model to trace and fill out the pattern over the area you want darker on the model. Then go back and apply my base coat (enamel) of duck egg or light gray with the airbrush. The contrast of the underlying color could be adjusted by the amount of paint applied by the airbrush during the time of the main coat. Thus achieving a defined variation in color without multi color coats of paint or masking!!!
I haven't tried it yet...just sitting at work thinking of model building.

What do you think??!?!?!
I’m excited to see if anyone has tried this or have suggestions about the process.

I would think the dark green or black would be too dark. You might get too stark a contrast.

hmmm...good point Aurora-7.
I also have some water based markers that i use sometimes that are different shades and lighter colors...only problem i have with those is that if I spray an overcoat of anykind it causes them to run before the coat dries.
that's one reason why im considering permanent marker...
It's been awhile since i've looked into markers of any sort so maybe there are new lighter colors that are permanent.
