Cutaway Enterprise disaster, I want to kitbash now
Posted by djrost_2000 on Tuesday, February 8, 2005 11:46 PM
I tried my hand at building the Cutaway Enterprise closed up. I couldn't get the saucer to line up right so I quit.
Now I'm thinking of taking remaining parts from kit and making a Destroyer. Will have to scratchbuild a whole saucer section though.
I have Franz Joseph Designs diagrams and I can explore online for reference.
I'm thinking of building up the saucer with layers of balsa and carefully sanding.
I have experience with balsa as I made a small-scale ship model hull with it from a kit.
What would a good scratchbuilder do for a Federation primary hull?

Thanks,

-Dave

Hey Dave, I've had great results with saucers using this method (about half way down):

And have used PVC pipe for several hull shapes. Cut, glue, sand...all kind of fun.

You can also look at Woodys:

Hope this helps,
Matt
