RoG gets licenses for new Star Wars models

Hyperscale.com had an article about upcoming model releases at the Nuremberg Toy Fair. At the bottom of the article was a few sentences about the upcoming Star Wars movie. It said that Revell of Germany had acquired licensing rights for this movie and was releasing 6 new kits. All but one are going to be simplified snap-tite models. I don't know how anyone else feels about this, but I'm not happy they are going to be releasing "simplified snap-tite models". I know, I know, I should be happy to get new sci-fi kits but do they have to be simplified? I'm hoping the description of the new kits is wrong but I kind of doubt it. I was looking forward to the new kits, now I'm not so sure. I was hoping Fine Molds would have been awarded the licensing rigths. Below is the link:

Well, I think RoG is a step in the right direction, and yes, Fine Molds would have been a modeler's dream come true. However, anything is better than RC2's blatant disregard for certain details that should never be screwed up (case in point: the X-Wing's semi-circle "collectors" at the tip of each laser cannon being oriented in the wrong direction). Let's hope that RoG lets Lucasfilm know that modelers aren't all little 10 year olds, and that we'd appreciate higher parts-count models with accurate detail.

Whelp, it's not like there's a lot of other active threads here in the Sci-Fi section of this forum, and I'm sure it's news to more people than just myself. Naw, you don't sound rude, maybe just a bit intolerant of things you feel to be non-newsworthy? Nothing personal in my last comment, I'm just sure this has informed more than myself as everyone can't always live on the internet. (not implying anything!)

Well not to sound like a cheap dum, but Fine Molds was kinda high priced. And maybe RoG once the snap-tights are done will run more higher part count kits. There is one think that really ticks me off about Revel, WHY do they box the kits that way. They have to be different and use one solid box, WHY NOT TWO halves like everyone else SoapBox [soapbox]

MMUMMMmmmuuuumm MUUUUmmm MMMUUUU.

I am thrilled that a competant kit manufacturer is taking the license on. The R0G snap kits will likely be better than PL glue kits.

It doesn't matter if the model snaps together. You can glue it too. Bandai kits are ALL snaps and the engineering is incredible.

I just hope they aren't pre-paints like the Bandai Trek kits. I can't imagine they are.

Hmmm, my interest is the "but one" in the "all but one" comment. I wonder what that will be? I hope it's a spacecraft or vehicle instead of some figure.

That said, this is not huge news to me, as the new SW movies haven't really generated a lot of passion in me. The design will be have to be pretty neat for me to bother modeling it, if the movie itself leaves me tepid.

Larry, I'm with you when it comes to the prequel SW movies. They haven't been good and I haven't enjoyed them as much as I enjoyed the original releases. That being said I was looking forward to some new scifi models but I am still disappointed at the "simplified" description. That was okay when I was a kid but as an adult, I would like higher quality kits and I am willing to pay more to get a high quality kit. Oh well, at least the SW convention will be here again and maybe I can get some good stuff this year.

Well, you're half right. I just looked, but can't find an image or the "info" I saw earlier, but I believe the new glue kit will be the large, Star Destroyer-ish ship.

I will probably get the Arc (X-Wingy) thing.. And the Tie looking Starfighter.. But thats about it.. The bubble fighter thingy is no breakthrough in new design.. The Star Destroyer thingy looks like a Kenner toy, and well I wont buy any model that has legs.. When you live in an age where you have the capability to make things fly or hover. Then legs on any form of transport to me, seems a little awkward and impracticle and uncomfortable!... Stupid really!

I dont know why, but when I look at the AT-AT's and the like, I just get a sence of un-common sence?.. In the time it took the AT-AT's in ESB to walk to the Rebel base. A Star Destroyer could have fired something, or a fighter squadron could have carpet bombed the area 20 times over.. I know, I know, its just a movie.. But really?.. I also feel that if I was driving one of these things. As it is a mechanicle beast. The movement would be very rigid at best.. It would make me sick being shaken from side to side in one of those things while it was trying to walk!

As for the Star Destroyers bombing the area, the Rebels had their planetary shields up, and those can block energy (i.e. lasers) but won't stop transports from entering. The reason for this is because there are two types of shielding in the Star Wars universe that I know of: Ray and Particle. Ray shielding blocks lasers and Particle stops solid matter. The planetary shielding was Ray, to the best of my knowledge. It would keep the Star Destroyers from doing their thing until the ground assault forces could destroy the shield generators. Umm, I just lost about 500 cool points, huh?

Naw, discussing Sci-fi always gains you cool points. Of course, they are only awarded by other Sci-fi guys and gals so not sure if that is a positive.

According to the pics I saw on one of the other posts (one by me, one by J-hulk), the kits carry the name Easy Kit which I think RoG has used on some of the prepainted planes that I have seen. I could be wrong as the pics don't show anything painted.

I will probably buy several and will look at the new ones that ERTL is releasing also. If nothing else, you can use the parts in your own projects.
