AMT 1701-A: Any kitbash ideas?
Posted by MartianGundamModeler on Monday, February 21, 2005 5:25 PM
i dugup my old battered 1701-a out of the garage. Since it was broken i was thinking of kit bashing it. Anyone have any interestin ideas or know of a site with interesting "movie era" starship designs i could base a "refit enterprise" kit bash on? If I can't come up with anything i am just going to rebuild back to it's proper self albeit better than before. this particular models has been rebuilt about three times since the 1980's!lol one even with the nacells glued to the saucer to make a "reliant" before i put it back together in it's "proper config" about 15 years ago! Hey, i was a kid.lol
Man, I'm gettin old!LOLBig Smile [:D]

Build one of the FASA ships, like an Andor or Baker.

My site has some kitbashes of the AMT Refit in the http://members.aol.com/Griffworks/UFP.html <--UFP Starships Section.

JohnP's http://www.inpayne.com/models/kitbash/trekpage.html <---Kitbashed Starships page has one Refit kitbash, as well as others for the AMT/ERTL Excelsior, Enterprise-B and Reliant - and TNG and beyond.

For even more design ideas, check out http://www.shipschematics.net/ <--- Starship Schematic Database for a huge variety of Federation designs you can be inspired by.

If you want to do one of the FASA designs, the Feddie Recognition manual is great. I can make you a copy of any if you'd like. Let us know what you decide.

Thanks Steve!
I checked out the site. Cool. I can print off the ones I need from work.LOL Thanks for the offer though.Big Smile [:D] I don't think I have looked at so many ship designs in two days!
So far i have come up with shortening the neck and using a TNG color scheme similar to the Ambassidor/Defiant/Intrepid classes. I leaning more toward a "Voyager" look with some blue accents like on the Defiant and Enterprise C. I'll say that it was an old consitution refit that was used as a test bed. So it will have a grey hull [indicating possible ablative armor], phaser strips, and I may modify the nacells a bit by adding some extra plaating. I'll probably add some sheet styrene plates to the hull as well indicating armor. I really don't want to add the phaser strips really but it would be hard justifying this much mod and still have the old style phaser ports (even though the Miranda class seems to still have them even thought they fire beams that look like those from the strips!). Anyway the kit photon launchers are't nearly detailed enough. Any kitbash scratch build ideas aside from stealing them from a Reliant kit...
