                        It's possible it may be there for emergency separation in the event of an emergency, but I could be wrong.

                        True it is capable of surface landing and take off it was just the fact that the seam around the edge has alwayss puzzed me...

                        From what I have been able to find, Voyager, and others in her class, were designed to be able to land as one unit, negating the need for saucer separation (Condition Blue). I hope this helps.

                        Just thought I would spark up some conversation about something that has puzzled me ever since i saw the first publicty shots of U.S.S. Voyager and got my first kit. Does it not look like that the entire inner portion of the 'saucer section"/primary hull separates? I know none of the literature states this and i know that there was an auxilliary craft mounted on the saucer bottom that was never shown. . Maybe there is also a small emergency star drive for the saucer. Any thoughts on this?
