Star Wars reference book question/suggestions
Posted by gnsnow on Monday, March 7, 2005 9:25 PM
I recently received a copy of the Vehicle Blueprint Portfolio - very disappointing. The prints suffer from an extreme lack of detail, though I'm not sure of their proportional accuracy (maybe they have some value in that area?).

I've heard good things about "Star Wars Chronicles", but I need to be sure it'll suit me before I part with THAT much money.

The "Essential Guide to . . ."(s) seem to be more focused towards gamers, not modellers.

The Visual Dictionary looks to be lacking in good visual detail for the vehicles, etc.

The Incredible Crossections is interesting, but also lacks exterior proportions and details.

Anyway, I've done my homework and came up short - still trying to find the definitive reference(s) on Ep. 4-6 vehicles, ships, etc.

Any help is appreciated, thanks in advance.

Hi gnsnow, I would stick with the original Star Wars the Essential Guide to Vehicles and Vessels it contains tons of schematics and has all of the ships seen in Star Wars IV through VI. The new revised Star Wars the Essential Guide to Vehicles and Vessels is cool but has no schematics.

For reference pics and some good schematics keep an eye out for a thee part series of magazines that was printed by Topps. Its long out of print but show up form time to time on the auctions.

If you search around the web you'll find most of the schematics from Star Wars the Essential Guide to Vehicles and Vessels some where or another as several busy beavers seem to have scanned and posted them.Disapprove [V]

Hope this helps,
Matt

I've got the 3-magazines. They're called Star Wars Technical Journal. They are ...of the Planet Tatooine, ...of the Imperial Forces, ...of the Rebellion. Very much worth having!

The "Behind the Magic" CD rom has loads of reference photos and stills for ANH, ESB and RotJ. For Episode I, there's a CD called "Insider's Guide". I've got nuthin' for Episode II yet.

'From Star Wars to Indiana Jones' has excellent photos of the actual studio models.

Star Wars Chronicles is AWESOME! One of the best resources I've ever seen for the star wars modeler.

I managed to get a VERY CHEAP copy for $39 from Amazon.com because it had a scratch on the cover, and the outer sleeve had a small tear in the clasp mechanism. Considering it is $150 new, I'd say I lucked out.

Make sure you try Half Price books in your area or online as well. I've run across several in the past year for around $70.
