How do we like Battlestar Galactica so far?
Posted by djrost_2000 on Tuesday, March 8, 2005 5:30 PM
I love the series, and haven't missed a show yet. But Starbuck climbing into a robotic fighter that just happens to have manual controls, and stuffing a shirt into a hole and keeping the atmoshpere inside the fighter; come on!!
I still love the series and will follow it.
Just checking to see what everyone thinks so far?

I have all the series ready to watch but have only seen the pilot...Perhaps when I am on holidays, my wife and I can sit and watch the show. Looks good!

cheers

I think it is one of the best sci-fi series that has been on in a while. I've got the pilot mini series on DVD and haven't missed an episode.

I like it a lot. Without a doubt the best Sci-Fi series on TV.

I can almost forgive the sci fi channnel for canceling Farscape. Nitpicks aside, it's the best sci-fi series for me since Deep Space 9.

I gotta agree that one ep was a load of crap unless Starbuck turns out to be a Cylon too!LOL (Which I hope not.). Any way I have no iidea where they are going with the story and that's what makes it such a thrill ride. Anything can happen. For me it's the best Sci-fi series since Space Above and Beyond from a character developement/drama standpoint. Aurora-7, I miss Farscape too...Disapprove [V]
Hey you guys I have been toying with a strange thought. What if the the Cylons are or will be Earth humans? Or better yet what if the Cylons have already been to earth? It whould explaing the similarity of their religion to Christianity, at least in the since of there being one god who loves everyone. i just can't understand whay they tend to kill so mercilessly...Confused [%-)]

Great show. Love the way they subdue the noise in the space shots. Only a hint of engine/aircraft noises as they fly by. No big bang when something explodes. No one hears you screan in space, but you need a little background noise to relate to the sceen. Done very well, I think.

Notice how they are using analog clocks and 1950's phones? Really emphasises that the ship was really out of date and ready for decomissioning when their world came to an end.

On the other end of the spectrum, I remember they where supposed to have a couple of new experimental fighters on board. Are these the ones we see them flying?

So, when are new kits coming out? And who is doing them?

One of the continuity points I like is after the water tanks were destroyed, in the following episodes, you can see the damage to the exterior. They haven't had the need or time to fix it, so they haven't.

Question, the guy that plays Baltar, was he on the 80's TV show 'Wings'?

No that was Steven Weber, looks alike but is now older. He sounds a lot like Dr. Bashir from DS9 (although I know he is not).

Wonder where all the "don't watch that cr@p" fans of the old show are? I loved the original as a kid, I like the new show better.

Cool I hadn't noticed that. However teh problem i had with that episde was that the external hull of the Galactica took a direct hit from a tactical nuke in the pilot/miniseries, yet it only took a a few small charges of "c-4" (think they called it "c-5" or something in the show) to blow it wide open. One could claim "water pressure", or c-5 is powerful stuff, or integrety on the inside being weaker than from the out side but still that's a stretch esp considering how thin the hull appeared to be from the view inside of the tank they gave us on the episode.
Still i love the show. Every episode is full of surprises...

Great!!!
I loved the original as a kid and this one is better!

About the only thing I was disappointed with, (and not too much) is the Galactica itself. I'm probably just pining for the original ship.

What do you not like about the galactica. The exterior difference to the original are minor from a design sense in my op. Hey if you don't like it everyone is entitled to their own opinion i'd just like to hear your thoughts.

When the nuke hit, it was against full armor. When the tanks were blown (from the inside, remember, Boomer was wet...) the armor wasn't in place.

Also, any else notice in the original mini-series the Galactica had to retract the pods before going FTL? Then, in one scene, they're fully deployed. heheh.

I also love the flash-back to the military base with the Humvees, etc in the background. I love the show since it could easily be a few years from now. Anyway, I like how Colonial One is roughly based on Air Force One (blue, 747).

One of the proponents of the 'Don't watch that cr@p' was Richard Hatch, who just happens to be in the second episode.

I think Richard Hatch was pushing hard for a continuation of the old series. I think he was let down when they decided on a remake, but he came around.

Are you saying that the hull armor is retracable?
I did notice that with the flight pods sometimes being deployed though they just made an FTL jump. I think that some of the similarities to our sociaty are too close. Like the clearly english writing on everything. i think it would be better if they at least used a different type of script so that we can still read it but at least it will look "alien". just my My 2 cents [2c]

don't forget the ties and suits!!!

That is a little too close to 20th-21st century Earth, or can they explain our fashions today as race memory?

Good show though, like the Vipers a lot!

I was not a fan of the pilot/miniseries, so I missed a few episodes when the season started. I'm sorry I did, because this is shaping up to be a good show. I especially like the fact that the powers that be are allowing the show to be "difficult", and full of paranoia, ambiguity, and second-guessing. I thought the torture episode was top-notch.

I did have problems with the female Starbuck, but now I find her to be the most intriguing character on the show. I'm also finding Cylon theology quite interesting.
I hope they can maintain the high quality. And I can't wait for the models (though I'd still love to lay my hands on a Cylon Raider from the original series).

I have to say I've really been enjoying it, though right now I still prefer Stargate SG-1 (and of course Farscape, which I still miss) over all other SF series currently on. Probably because SG-1 has so much back story propelling it forward. But SG-1 is clearly winding down to a Final Conclusion, possibly with the end of it's 9th season (coming up next year). Battlestar for me has been a pleasant surprise--it's showing a lot of serious potential--because I was never a fan of the orginal (2?) series--it was clearly aimed at a young audience, and I always found it painful to watch most of the time. (I'm a long time _serious_ science fiction fan, having read thousands of books and short stories and having seen virtually everything SF ever put on film or TV since the 50s.)

So I look forward to seeing Battlestar. Which for me is always a good sign!
