Building a Millenium Falcon
Posted by Anonymous on Sunday, March 27, 2005 9:30 PM
My cousin is a Star Wars fanatic. For his B-day I'm building him a ROTJ era MF.
So far it is looking good.I based it with a spray of flat gull gray.I painted a few panels a darker shade of gray and a few more a rust color.I then used Citadel Black Wash to shade and darken the model overall.I plan on doing a little dry-brushing with white for highlites. As long as you are at least a foot away you can't see the screw ups with the wash.(Too heavy in some places, obvious brush strokes in others).I'm quite happy with the build so far.The only reason my cousin is getting this one is because..............there is another!
Can you guys give me any pointers or ideas to clean it up or improve upon it?

Thanks

Drill out gun muzzles for the upper and lower turrets, add lighting, fix the canopy spars. Anything you see that's out of place, you can fix with the proper reference photos. I know Starship Modeler has reference pics of a huge Millenium Falcon that was on display in a museum.

beyond the other suggestions, have fun with the model and don't worry to much about the small details.

I would be thrilled if someone took the time to build a model for me as a gift. Technical inaccuracies wouldn't even come to mind with such a gift.

The great thing about model building is that it is progressive. You are currently building to the best of your abilties and no tips will fix that; only more builds. The key to being a great model builder is knowing that you can do better and having fun along the journey.

The single biggest complaint that serious SWr's have about the Falcon kit by MPC is the sid walls seperating the top and bottom of the saucers. they're too high but shortenting them brings on a whole world of mods. That's why mine still sits in the box untill I work up the courage and skill that Alfred has.

I know some of you have seen this one before, but here's my Falcon.

[shameless plug!]

Most of it's the MPC/AMT/Ertl kit, but I replaced the sidewalls with the shorter, cast-resin replacements from Falcon Kits (www.falconkits.com). They really transform the kit. I also added LightSheet panels for the cockpit's rear wall and the engine, and added incandescent grain-of-wheat "headlights." The base is from AMT/Ertl's TIE Fighter kit, by the way.
