HALO
Posted by Anonymous on Thursday, April 21, 2005 11:35 AM
Hey guys, I've been away for a little bit so I apologize if this topic has already been answered. I was just wondering if there was any word on if and when someone would put out some HALO kits. I figured that with the record number of sales of the game and a pending movie, it would be a sure thing. But it looks like I might have to scratch one together. Thanks a lot and have a great day.

Unfortunately, there are no kits, licensed or garage kit.

Other than a couple of scratchbuild projects I'm aware of, the closest you'll get to a model kit are the vehicle toys from RC2.

Would be nice though, wouldn't it.

It can't be that much longer, right? I mean if Federation Models (and its various subcompanies) can put out the Roger Young, The 'Alien' ships, and other various ships from bad movies, a HALO kit has to be around the corner. At least the ships will offer an interesting scratchbuild.

And look at what I JUST found!.. why isn't this guy in our forum, he has the right idea!

http://nikon.bungie.org/misc/sloftus_poamodel/

Look out Enterprise, this is a REAL ship.

Seeing the "little" PL Enterprise next to his scale drawing of the Autumn gave me a good chuckle Smile [:)]. Somebody is out there selling 1:1 master chief armor suits.

I would get some of the vehicles and maybe even a master chief figure if they came out with models of them. I have a feeling though with the required Micro$oft licensing, they would be way expensive. Sad [:(]

Stephen's Pillar of Autumn is one of the scratchbuilds I was talking about. It's going to be around 4 feet long when finished. Sweet.

He helped me out with the 3D mesh from the game. My build is on the backburner at the moment. I've got to get back on that project soon.

What model subjects do you think would be most popular from HALO?

Most popular would probably be the alien Banshee or the Ghost, yes i know its not a very decisive answer LOL Tongue [:P] The dropship would be popular too.

I would lean towards the Human vehicles though
M12 LRV Warthog
M8O8B MBT Scorpion Tank

I like the alien Wraith tank too. I like armor so I would get the tanks first.

oops, I totally forgot. As far as popularity goes, a model of the master chief would probably be the most popular by far. Alot of non-modelers would even buy it just because of the game.

I would lean more towards the warthog and the scorpion tank. But I like all the vehicles from Halo. Of course I am just a Halo fiend.

Understandable Bryan... it is the best game made.

But while the land vehicles would be cool, I wouldn't mind building the space-going ships. One of those big Covenant Cruisers, PIllar of Autumn or a MAC gun. Irregardless, I am sure kits will come out at some point, there is to much money there for someone NOT to do it.

I agree with you on that. I am not much of a SciFi buff, but from day one when I got the game I was hooked. I like Halo2, but the ending really Censored [censored] me off. Oh well, as long as I get to blow some stuff up I am happy.

falcon039,

I know what you're saying about the ending to HALO 2. Up until I got to the end of the game, I was gung-ho working on my Pillar of Autumn. And then......................what was that?????????? It's over?????????WTF!?!?!?!

That's when my enthusiasm for the project pooped out. It didn't leave me thinking "Yes!! this means HALO 3 is on the way!!!", it left me thinking "That's all the more effort they're putting into the story? Lame."

Hopefully they continue with the novels. There is a big chunk of information missing between the end of First Strike and the beginning of Halo 2.

So a Scorpion tank would be cool, huh? 1/35 I assume?

Well the word I got was then Bungie/MS were developing HALO2, the story got so large that they simply split it into HALO 2 and HALO 3. There is no way MS would pass up on the money they could make with HALO 3. I am surprised they haven't put more effort into marketing... to include kits. LucasArt is ALL over that. Star Wars is king for marketing... video games, models, you name it. With a HALO movie being talked about, who knows what to happen next.

Well fellas, I don't want to get you guys too hyped about this at the moment -- I have other projects that need to be completed first -- but I just thought I'd make it known I am planning on making a few HALO kits available for anyone who's interested Cool [8D].

At present, the idea is to first make the M6D Pistol from the first HALO game, as well as a scale model kit of the Pelican Dropship. I have gotten far enough along to actually have drafted templates for each kit, but as I am working on other production kits it may be some time before I get around to these.

Anyway, just thought you guys might want to know that... Wink [;)]

Sure, will do Marin... Wink [;)]

Like I said though, it may be some time before I have anything to show for either, as I am working on other production kits for my company that need to be finished first. Once those are out of the way, though, these will the next ones to come out.

I've actually been entertaining the idea of maybe even including a scaled-down Warthog to go along with the Pelican, and leave it up to the builder to either have it separate from the Pelican or suspended underneath the tail. I'm still debating on whether to do that, to be perfectly honest.

As I start to expand on this product line, I do intend to first come out with the complete weapon set from the first HALO game -- starting off with the Terran weapons, and then Convenant, if I really want to -- and then come out with the weapon set from the second game. The same idea will apply to the scale model kits for the vehicles (ie. Pelican, Warthog, Scorpion Tank, etc.).

One piece I'm particularly psyched about doing up is the Convenant Plasma Sword. I'm working out just what sort of materials to use for it, but if I can enough reference material I should be able to do pretty well on that one.

BTW, anyone have any idea how the guy that's doing that large-scale Pillar of Autumn scratch-build got his hands on those schematics? I've had to work on rather limited material in terms of pics and dimensions, so if I could find a really good source of information that would help to make my HALO kits far more accurate in terms of size and what not... Believe me Awan, I am indeed very familiar and well-versed with this game; I have both the Xbox and PC versions at home, and have put in hundreds of hours on each.

I’ve been an avid fan of HALO ever since its commencement back in 2001, and have thoroughly enjoyed playing this game again and again, either on my own or with a few good friends (I’d like to say I think I’m pretty skilled in multiplayer).

In my opinion this seems to be one of those rare games that come out once every decade that I can never get enough of (no matter how many times I may play it, I just have to play it more; I never get bored with it).

Hence why I've now decided to get into making some proper kits of these weapons... they're all just so kewl! And that Plasma Sword should make for one helluva display piece! Big Smile [:D]

I'm good enough at making other props -- Star Trek -- that I might as well make these as well, so as to make these available to other avid HALO fans who have never been able to find these anywhere before... Wink [;)]

Yes, I do have a website, but it's only for showcasing my personal prop collection (don't have a business website or anything up on the net). You can find a link to my current site in my profile...

Like I said before, don't get too excited about this just yet, guys. There are a couple other kit projects that I need to complete and start selling some of first before I can even get around to these, and in terms of production order the M6D Pistol will be first, so the wait time for the Pelican kit will be longer than that even.

I'm still deciding on what scale to do the dropship in, but I'll make sure it'll be large enough so that all the detail can be seen. I have to admit I'm not entirely sure that the dimensions I'm using -- LLENGTH: 26 ft., WIDTH: 12 ft., HEIGHT: 8 ft. -- are 100% accurate, but it's the best I have to work with at the moment.

If anyone with access to that information could verify for me that these dims are correct, it would be much appreciated... Wink [;)]

Eric, your numbers are off. If you have 3DS MAX (it's expensive) v5 or v6, you should be able to open the model's mesh files from HALO PC.

According to Stephen (he's building the large Pillar) the Pelican measures out to 100.29 ft. long by 76.82ft wide by 32.67ft high. In other words......BIG!

Do a Google search for "Halo mods" and get out the aspirin because you'll get a lot of information on extracting and modding models from Halo.

I don't have 3DS Max, so I had to read through all that stuff to figure out how to do it with the programs I have, but it got put on the backburner and I never did quite figure it out.

Damn... I realized that the Pelican dropship was big, but I didn't realize my measurements were that far off! Oops... my bad... Dead [xx(]

Well, thanks for the accurate info, Dennis. That'll certainly help me get it right for when I can actually get around to getting both the M6D and Pelican kits done and ready to go. Thanks again, my friend! Big Smile [:D]

Actually, i think Dennis's numbers here are a bit off also. I don't have real numbers, but after re-playing another level in the game that involved a downed Pelican (it's when you jump out of that hotel, get into the WArthog and you're kinda on the beach, if you leave that platform where the warthog is, and make a sharp right, you''ll see a pelican lying kinda on its side on the beach. (there's aliens around it, so be careful with any closer inspections). It looks like it's a bit longer that Eric;s original calculations, but not as long as Dennis's. I'd make a rough estimate at it being slightly longer than an Su-27 Flanker, 'bout the size of a schoolbus.

I'll post another thing in little while.
