Odd qustion
Posted by Anonymous on Friday, April 22, 2005 6:15 PM
Dont know if this should go here but. I was watching Gundam Seed and had a book about Gundam Wing and came across tanks that they had in the show. And I would like to build at lest one. Now my qustion is what would be a good tank to base it on I like the one from Wing and it looks kinda like Abrams tank in a way and what would be a good scale to go with my Gundam kits? I am thinking 1/72 since in both shows the tanks are a little bit bigger. Thanks for the help!

WarthogII,
Do you have any pics of these?
Gundam kits range in scale with 1/144 and 1/100 being pretty popular. I know they make a couple of tanks as kits (resin out of Japan I think) so you may be able to buy what you want. Otherwise, Trumpeter has released several 1/144 scale tanks. I know that an Abrams is on the list but not sure if it is out yet. I have seen a Challenger and a Leopard. These are pretty small when standing next to a Gundam so you may need to scale up. The Revell Abrams is a nice kit and could be a good starting place.
Good luck,

Thanks for the reply. I cant find in pics of the tanks since the Gundam are always to stars of the show. I am going to put it with my 1/444 kits since thats almost all I have. I think I will go with geting a 1/72 Abrams kit and update it.

Why not just scratch build? They'd be easy enough to make 'em piece by piece out of sheets, rods & strips of stock styrene, or you could carve yourself a master in some Super Sculpey & make a whole bunch of 'em out of resin.

Funny thing was right before I logged on I was thinking about scratch building one but was not sure. But now I have the will to do it. Thanks jdavidb!

Edit. Watched part of Gundam seed and found some tanks fighting Bucues and found that both the tanks and Bucues are about the same size and lucky for me I have a 1/444 Bucue on hand so the tank is about 4 inches long and 2 inches high. The hull is going to be easy but the turret that is going to be real hard.

I've searched for pics of those two and couldn't find any. I was thinkin' I'd like to scratchbuild one just to do it.

Are the turrets round or the angular type with flat panels?

They won't let ya go right to the pics from those links, but I found the pics through their image archive.

The turrets won't be hard. Once you see what's on the styrene racks, you'll see. I would use rectangular rods for that whole turret except the gun barrel.

The Bucue really is only 4" long in 1/144 scale? The Bucue is quite huge compared to the jeeps. I don't know about the tanks, but it is a whole lot bigger than the jeeps.

Strange I can get the pics from the links. I still dont have my plan for building mine yet. Have to find some styrene. Yes the Bucue is on 4" long since it made for fast attacks.

Here's my turret. It's a bit bigger than what you're planning. This one is probably 1/60 or 1/72. It took a few hours. Click it to really see it...

I wanted to make it big enough to where it can really shoot BB's. Just kidding, but the barrel tilt does work. It goes almost straight out, and it goes way up higher than tanks usually go. Maybe I can impress some chicks with it. Tongue [:P]
