Soon, very soon! The caster told me it will be done before Wonderfest and the decals are in the works as well. Wink [;)]

The saucer is fully primed as is the secondary hull. I have also stained the base and I will be varnishing that tomorrow. It's all starting to pull together. I hope to have some more pics of my progress up in a day or so.

Here are a couple more pics of my nearly fully assembled ship and one of the base. Let me know if you like it or not.

Soon Steven, soon. I think I'll be getting most of the painting done before mounting the engines. It's now mounted on it's base next to me here and looks pretty good to my eye. More pics soon.

Super job, Woody. Blappy has turned out some sharp castings, too. BTW, I've got a request for a picture from you: any chance you could pose your Baton Rouge buildup alongside your Avenger and a PL TOS Enterprise (if you've got one)?

I think your interested in a size comparison with something that is familiar to you. Here are three saucer sections.

Does that help some?

True. I figure that the hull space is taken up with older, bulker equipment. Look at the visable part of the impulse engines for example. These vessels were exploring deep space before transporters or replicators. I'm guessing they had large cargo holds for fresh water and supplies for their long missions.

Thanks for the size comparison, Woody. Big Baton Rouge - and teeny Avenger. How are your eyes holding up?

My eyes aren't too bad. My biggest problem is finding the time to work on stuff.

Though I know it is noncanon, the absolute best Star Trek novel ever written, The Final Reflection by John M Ford,

features the Baton Rouge class ships near the end of the novel. And specifically says that they have the first model of the Federation transporter. (Doesn't the Spaceflight Chronology also say they have 'em?)

Can't wait to buy one or three of those kits! Tongue [:P]

The USS Moscow, Baton Rouge class was the first vessel to have a transporter installed. If you look at the painting you can see a gold colored band on the secondary hull. I've always thought that was the transporter emitter. Hopefully the decal sheet will also contain the USS Tehran. The Moscow and the Tehran were the two ship to take part in the first ship to ship beaming.

I have learned that the Baton Rouge kit won't be available at Wonderfest. The castings are ready but there wasn't enough time to finish the decals. I'm quite bummed but I'm told it will be available a couple weeks after the show. I'm going to try and enter my build in the show still. DarnSad [:(]

I'm holding up on attaching the nacelles until I paint it. I'm waiting on a shipment of paint. Then attach the nacelles and a couple detail peices, decal and seal. It's already mounted to its base. I'll have more pics up soon.

Well, I've been pretty busy these last couple days. I have fabricated a dish, cast the red tinted parts I need, and placed pins in the nacelles that will align the nacelles to the struts. All the pieces are done!!! Now all I have to do is paint and final assembly. Big Smile [:D] Any the who I thought I'd share a couple pics before I start painting.

There are moments in modeling that just make you happy. As I sit here tonight I can see all the shapes come together. I feel like i've reached into a painting and pulled an object into the world of 3-D. Something that didn't exist as an object, now does and I've had a moment of joy.
