A lot of you are trekkies and this story from the LA Times might bring some negative light on trekkies --

http://www.latimes.com/news/nationworld/world/la-fg-photo27apr27.story

It's partly debunked on this legal issues blog:

Kinda gives new meaning to the phrase "though police", which happened to be covered in an episode of Star Trek- The Next Generation. - Calvin

I'm not a Trekkie, but man I hate it when the media makes claims like this......I can assure them, not one episode of Star Trek I ever did watch had any child porn in it. They need to quit trying to look for a scapegoat and just accept the fact they are sick for their own reasons.....the damn show didn't make them that way! Thanks for the link Larry, I found the article educational....I had no clue how extensive this disease has become.

It's a sick world sometimes, but I don't blame it on Star Trek......I blame it all on Barney.

I think it was more the police themselves, at first, though the paper did run with it, which was dumb.

The claim is that it's a world with monsters and make-believe which you can control, so it's for people with control fantasies or some pop-psych crap like that, but in fact people who know anything about the shows know that Star Trek is, more than anything else, a view of a positive future in which people actually have higher goals and often behave better than people do today.

This is part of the appeal of the shows -- a positive future and a human race with higher aspirations -- and though I'm also not a huge fan of the shows, to characterize them in that way is as stupid as it is insulting.

Hey,

First off, both the cops and the paper were sloppy; their own government stats show child abusers to be 50-50 in terms of the sex of the predator (Ministry of Health). Second, even "wordspeak" is the rule there - if it may offend, it's outlawed - Canada had no free speech whatsoever. Third, if they only found five out of 50,000 - time to save money and disband the unit - they make the LA cops look good!Wink [;)]
Wonder if the one they caught who didn't like Star Trek was Michael Jackson? But then again, he's into Peter Pan....Big Smile [:D]
