S:AAB Prop Items...
Posted by Eric Ardros on Wednesday, May 4, 2005 1:07 AM
Well fellas, I just completed an eBay transaction a few days ago to acquire an unbuilt resin-cast kit of the Hammerhead Fighter, as well as a repro of a Tellus Colonist ID Tag, from the short-lived sci-fi series "Space: Above and Beyond" (or S:AAB for short):

I'd always really liked that show -- I wished it had stayed on for longer than it did -- and so have wanted to get some sort of memoribilia for it for a while now. I think these two items fit the bill quite nicely in that respect (hehehe) Wink [;)].

Now all I need is to get the pistol and rifle from the series, and my S:AAB prop collection will be well on its way! Big Smile [:D]

BTW, I don't know if anyone else is at all familiar with this series or its props/filming miniatures, but if so can anyone venture a guess as to the colour scheme for the Hammerhead? Or what the standard colour scheme is for military aircraft kits? Question [?]

I remember that serie. I think the hammerheads where painted in a dull gray color. With some stenciling and markings on the side

Hello Eric, we meet again.

The CG model seemed to be overall light to medium grey and the leading edge of the wings and intakes were a darker grey.

The full scale set piece appears to have been painted an olive drab color.

I missed out on an original S:AaB helmet "throw away". It was an unused fiberglass casting that hadn't had anything done to it. It would have required some work to make it into something. Someone pulled it out of the dumpster when the show was cancelled and put it on e-bay a while ago. I couldn't watch the auction (work) and someone outbid me. RRRRR!!!!!!!

Hi Remco... yeah, I know each Hammerhead fighter had stenciling/markings that was specific to each pilot -- ie. Hawkes cockpit read "Pag's Payback", whereas West's cockpit read "Above and Beyond" -- so my only concern was the actual colour scheme for the hull itself Question [?].

Stipp... thanks for the offer, but now that I think about it, I actually have the entire series -- however much of it there was before cancellation *mutter mutter* -- on CD. I totally forgot I had those episodes for reference until you mentioned it. Thanks anyway, though Wink [;)].

Dennis... yes, we meet again (hehehe)! Big Smile [:D] Even though the full-size filming model may have been painted an olive drab colour, I think the light to medium grey -- with darker grey for the wing tips and intakes -- would look a lot better (it would more closely match the standard colour scheme of today's military aircraft).

BTW, sorry to hear you missed out on that "throw away" prop helmet. I would've loved to add something like that -- along with the pistol and rifle -- to my S:AAB collection too! Smile [:)]

Thanks for the info, guys! I'll try to get to work on these pieces as soon as they arrive! Cool [8D]

YAY! YIPEE! Big Smile [:D]

I just received these items in the mail earlier today! Here are a few of my own pics of these pieces:

I've got a few other projects in the works that need to get done first, but man, I can't wait to get started on these! I'll try to post some progress pics as I go along...
