Thanks, I-Beam. The secret is lots of research and good old-fashioned guessing. I have a long way to go and may not finish it this year.

Take your time and just have fun with it.

I took abreak from building race motorcycles and am acquiring an X-wing and maybe tie interceptor off Eba. Just one thing- anybody know a source for the rendezvous design X-wing cockpit? I googled it and didn't come up with anything. Didn't see one on Ebay either. Ideas?

I've got pieces of that kit sitting around... mostly ripped out the fiber optics since pices were hanging from it

It was the BF's old kit though.... Seemed like it was missing some parts too, sadly... had it not been, I might have tried to save it -__-

Good to see everyone breaking out some SW kits.

Thunderbearr that is some awesome work your doing on your star destroyer. I have been following your build (as well as bobbyfett's) over on starshipmodeler. All I can say is once I saw what you were doing, mine looks kinda plain Sad [:(] I'm gonna add some more little bits and scraps to mine just not to the same extent as your's prolly. Alot of the surfaces are just way too bare.

Jin, I think the Ertl star destroyer is around 1/6000. It's 15in long. But that's nothing, the super star destroyer (ESB i think) is around 8x bigger. Big Smile [:D] No model of that though, you have to scratchbuild it.

I have been threatening my Ertl ISD. I also ordered a Fine Molds Tie Interceptor. Still waiting on the RoG kits.

I'm much the same - normally a historic aircraft/tank/ship modeller but after building a couple of Star Wars kits (Sith Infiltrator and Y-Wing) I'm now hooked on this subject as well!
As well as kits I've also bought some of the large-scale toy ships to rebuild and repaint. I recently completed the X-Wing and am currently working on the Jedi Starfighter from Episode 2

I've also got a Star Destroyer (actually in an Airfix box, but it's the same mould as the Revell/AMT one) and intend to build it fairly soon! Unfortunately it's not the fibre-optic lighting version.

I'm glad I bought most of my ships a few months ago rather than now, though - prices of both kits and toys seem to have gone up hugely lately , with the Episode 3 mania!
I got my Star Destroyer on eBay for £10 inc P&P but I see them going for £20-30 now.

On the plus side, the new Episode 3 kits are very good detail-wise and are relatively cheap.

I built a Millenium Falcon for a family member a few months ago.I'd never done anything like that.I build armor primarily.I had such a blast with that I started buying older kits on ebay. With all the movie hype I'm totally hooked on Star Wars kits.I'm currently working on a shuttle Tyderium.Already on the shelf are a Dart Vader tie,an AT-ST dio and a captured tie interceptor with rebel markings.
The AT-ST is the first dio I've ever done.

Well the Sith mania has caused me to break out the Ertl Star Destroyer from my stash. Started right on thursday, deficiencies, fiber-optics and putty joy. I know what your thinking: "wrong movie" and "that is so 20 years ago Clown [:o)]" Oh well, couldn't help it and I don't have the new Revell Republic Star Destroyer yet Sad [:(]. Has the Star Wars mania caused anyone else to break out stashed Star Wars kits??? hehe
