My Battlestar Galactica Display
Posted by Chris_in_Japan on Monday, August 1, 2005 6:39 AM
While trying to do some jobs for people, and also doing my 1/2500 Enterprise collection. My other big love in life is Battlestar Galactica (Old and New)

I rearanged my Entertainment room and was happily left with a tall chest of draws with a nice height to put a display.. What I mean by nice is, that it is well under eye level, but at the same time out of the reach of my daughter..

Here are a few pics of the display.. Yes, my Galactica is lacking alot detail to the sides, and I will get back to it one day...

First picture. The display

Galactica display with Vipers.. The Galactica is the 1981 Monogram kit released here in Japan by Bandai, and the Vipers are the Konami Vipers.

As I am still relying on taking pics with my digital video camera, I simply cant get a good picture. But the Cylon Base Star was painted to show different colours to its metal structure, and also a more rusted and worn look was added to give it that space look.. This is also the 1981 Japanese Monogram kit by Bandai.. The Cylon Raiders are also the Konami Raiders..

Vipers with schematics of both craft.. Lack of detail on the Galactica.. One day!...

Cylon Raiders and schematics

I plan to one day have the New series Galactica in the same size frame as the old kit, and also a Base Star to match.. Again.. One day...

Very cool! I didn't know that kits even existed of the old Galactica and Base Star. It all looks great. What scale are the Vipers and Raiders?

Thanks for the photos. It would be cool to see a comparison when/if the new ships get kitted.

Great job, Chris! I especially like how you've blended in the Konami mini's, as well as added the schematic decals to the bases.

I also didn't realize that Monogram had licensed the kits in Japan thru Bandai. Pretty neat bit of trivia.

Did you get a silver AND gold Cylon, too? Nice stuff!

Thanks guys.. Brian, I only collected the Vipers and the Raiders from Konami to put with this display.. I wasnt interested in the others purely because I had the Galactica and Base Star in the Monogram kit, and also I just wanted a few things to add.. I am starting to find that less is better, and I am actually auctioning off alot of my models because of it...But thanks for your comments..

Jeff, the DVD's do make the look of it I think also.. Because we dont get the new Series here in Japan, I have had to rely on the Internet in order to get to watch the show.. So I decided that I would make a box set all my own.. I have 7 disc's. First disc is with the 2 part mini series, and then 3 episodes per disc after that 1-3, 4-6, 7-9, 10-12.. Although Ep 13 was lucky enough for its own disc.. Then all I did was downloaded the pictures from the Sci-Fi Channel site, and used them as covers.. Problem is, I now have Ep 1-3 ready from season 2, but dont have any decent pics to use for my season 2 set... I want to keep them looking similar to my season one set. But obviously different...

Mike, I have seriously been looking for more Vipers for you, but I am thinking I bought the last one?.. They do pop up from time to time on auction here, but are starting to get a little silly in price.. I am not sure if any other members here in Japan have any spare to help you with? Brian?? Blush [:I] But I will kepp looking for you...

You know Chris, We have a lot more in common than I thought! LOL I'm a big BSG & Trek fan, too. I never seen anything from BSG when I was over there. Those Konami Vipers & Raiders, are they from way back or are they something new?
