Thanks for the kind words. Drawde, mud doesnt have to necessarily look like mud from earth, although Im not really sure what mud from another planet should look like Smile [:)] Maybe try and ash waste goop from outside a city spire.

SteelSnail forgot to answer your question. The bolters were based with a blue/black, know you cant tell from the photos, but they actually look like they have some bluing. Next was drybrushing with Tamiya metallic grey, then flat aluminum, and finishing with silver. That's about the extent of it.

Very nicely done. The mud and paint chipping especially, bring the model to life.

Really impressive-looking! I particularly like the weathering (I didn't add any mud to my Land Raider,
I really should have done; though it doesn't show up on dark green quite as well as yellow).

I'm not sure where your from, I am thinking US, but you might have a GW store or hobby shop that stocks their items close by.

Cool [8D] You did so much weathering! I haven't even tried half the things you did. Way to go!
I'm still going through hte pics, but so far so good. Specially the mud.
I also liked the look of the heavy bolters. How did you paint them?
Well, congratulations.
BTW: I just finished the immolator, although little was made as fas as weathering, and I'll be posting photos in the GB topic.
I'm glad you enjoy the GB. I did too.

Well,

Here at last is the finished product of the WH40K group build. It was a straight forward build from the box with which I incorporated a few new techniques I have been trying as far as weathering. Overall, I am very pleased with the effects achieved, may have gone a little too far with the paint chipping, but we'll chalk that one up to a bad shipment of paint sent to this Chapter from wherever. The kit is from GW and has been completed in the colors of the Imperial Fists. You might notice that there is no crewman in the TC hatch. This vehicle will be put into a diorama and I have yet to mod the figures for the idea I have. There are two sets (one with normal focus, the other with macro) that I have linked so I dont kill anyones comp. So, without further ado, the pics Big Smile [:D]:

The hull and interior were constructed first followed by an application of Tamiya Buff for the interior color. Oil washes were used to simulate dirt, rust, and grime on the interior. Once the interior was dry, I constructed the rest of the model and gave it a base coat of poly s panzer grey. This was then followed by an overcoat of Tamiya flat yellow. Mud was then applied (with the tip of my finger) by using squadron white putty. I wanted it to look like it had dried mud that was beginning to flake off.
Weathering began with an oil wash of cadmium yellow to deepen the yellow already present. This was followed by a thin wash made from flat black, burnt umber, italian brown, and a touch of cadmium yellow. Once this was dry, I went back over all the spaces flaking the paint with an curved exacto blade. Next was several drybrush runs with the original yellow and lightned with white. Tracks and exhaust were given a base coat raw umber, a black oil wash, then highlighted with burnt sienna, followed by raw sienna. Tracks were further drybrushed with aluminum, followed by silver.
Once this was complete and dry, I sealed the model with future and applied the decals. The decals were a little thin and I managed to destroy two. Luckily I had replacements on hand. Decals were sealed once more with future and a dull coat applied.
Final weathering was produced by creating running grim along the hull with drybrushed burnt umber oil streaks and darker streaks with a very thin black wash. Pastel chalks were used to simulate exhaust, soot stains, and a very fine hint of dust from mid-hull down to ground level.
This was an enjoyable project. My only complaints with the kit...no seperate instructions, they are printed on the side of the box, and the plastic that is used is very soft. It would be very easy for one to slip with an exacto blade and literally slice a part in half.
Critiques and recommendations are welcome so please shoot em my way. Steelsnail, I enjoyed the group build immensley. Have to do it again soon. Wink [;)]
